Kid's Cooking,
By
This review is from: Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade Cool Kids' Cooking (Hardcover)
My three-year old daughter just loves this book. She grabs it when we are in the kithchen and wants to cook something out of it. It is easy enough for kids to help prepare the meal and gets them involved. I just love it!

SEMI-homemade (NOT homemade!),
By Lizzie Elle (Spokane,WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade Cool Kids' Cooking (Hardcover)
I was surprised that some people were so vehement about their distaste for this cookbook. Sandra makes no bones about what she does - mixes premade ingredients with fresh ingredients for quick, delicious recipes. She doesn't claim to be a master chef (although she does state on her television program that she learned how to do things traditionally from her grandmother), or a nutritionist. Her recipes are quick and easy for busy mothers and kids who don't have time to cook everything from scratch. If you are looking for recipes that take forever (measuring, etc.) and are written by a professionally trained chef, don't buy Sandra Lee. But if you are looking for quick, easy, and delicious recipes that utilize many of the foods that most of us have in our pantries (without forking out a fortune for specialized ingredients), Sandra's your gal.

"SEMI" HOMEMADE,
By
This review is from: Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade Cool Kids' Cooking (Hardcover)
To the people that don't agree with the method's used in the book they have obviously not see Sandra Lee's show on Food Network. This is her own personal style of doing things. Thus the term "semi" homemade. Indeed this method does use canned and pre-made things [which is the whole idea.] I personally love her recipes and love this book. It is true that this book is not necessarily full of HEALTHY snacks yet you have the option of not buying this book. For those parents more interested in giving their kids a boost in the kitchen then this is the book for them. The recipes are very easy and fun to do. My sister uses this book all the time to play restaurant and it's a pleasure to see how happy she is to feel useful and loves helping us out with the meals.

It's called SEMI homemade for a reason,

I got this book for my nieces & nephews. My sister has 4 children and a full time job. Maybe other people's children have the attention span and skills to learn how to steam, sautee, reduce, glaze, dice etc. If so this book isn't for you, your children are already perfect. For those of us who want to get in the kitchen with our kids and make something tasty with as few steps and ingredients as possible (the name SEMI homemade is a clear giveaway) buy this book.

Maybe for kids but the adults won't want to eat the food!,

I checked this out of the library to involve my kids more in making dinner and give them more ownership of their meals. Keep it simple, I figured, so I went for the Sandra Lee style. I have to say that the food is pretty gross -- horribly over-sugared desserts, salty unhealthy dishes, and expensive to make. The kids love it, however..... I'm just glad I can return it to the library in two weeks.

We purchased a series of young cookbooks so that my granddaughter would have fun learning to cook. All of the books were great

Not for everyone,

I have made the French Dip sandwiches, the Fizzy orange drink, no-bake oreo cheesecake, the porcupine balls, the spaghetti calzone so far. All have been hits with myself and my kids, ages 8 and 11.The cookbook is cute and colorful, although I wish there were pictures for every recipe. This recipe book is not for everyone - if you don't like premade food like refrigerated pizza dough or canned soups then you will not like this book. However, the recipes are easy and quick to make, as well as delicious. I have to say this has been a hit in our house and has really got the kids interested in making all the recipes.

Recipes are fun and realistic for my 8-year old. Would've like to see some of the theming done by S. Lee on her show, though.
