Book Description

The Outer Banks. Wide, solitary beaches. Windswept sand. Breathtaking sunsets over the Sound. A perfect place for a couple to live out their days. Except when for one of them, those days are numbered.

When Tom Ralston’s wife dies unexpectedly, he finds himself feeling trapped in Sandy Cove, the idyllic Outer Banks village in which they had planned to spend the rest of their lives together. Unable to function and unable to move on, Tom runs away from everyone and everything in his life, traveling the world in search of solace. But he is searching in the wrong place. When Tom returns to Sandy Cove he realizes that it is time to let go of his past and move on with his life, and he begins working to reestablish his friendships and to repair the relationships he neglected during his sojourn.

Sandy Cove is a story of what was and what will be, a story of the innocence of a childhood friendship and of the anguish of adult heartbreak. A story of love and of loss, of hope and of redemption, and of lifelong friendship rekindled.

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating, Beautifully-Written Book October 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved this book. Steven Recht is a gifted writer who has created indelible characters and beautifully evokes the lazy, small-town feel of the Outer Banks that tourists never see. But as you begin to savor the rhythyms of daily life in Sandy Cove, you also begin to realize it's more than a haven of comfort and warmth. For Tom, it's also a world of pain. Of intrigue. But ultimately, of hope. I will say no more, so as not to spoil this very moving story that unravels in ways surprising and delightful - but always real. Read this book for the escape. Read this book for its insights into life and love. Read it for the heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Come for the Love Story - Stay for the Setting December 12, 2012
By SuzEQ
Format:Paperback
Steven Recht paints such a vivid picture of beautiful Sandy Cove that it feels warm, welcoming and familiar. But it becomes a cold, lonely place for life-long resident Tom after the loss of his beloved wife. Tom is compelled to leave his pain behind, and ultimately ends up on a journey to find his way back to the comforts of home. As a sweet love story enfolds, we meet well-rounded and likable characters who knowingly or not, help Tom find strength and wholeness. There's so much to like about this book. There is depth and honesty in relationships. There is hope. There is tenderness in rediscovered love. But above all, there is good story-telling.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gentle and Easy January 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book flows along gently and in no particular hurry to get anywhere. Nothing much really happens but that's okay - you find yourself just enjoying a stroll along the beach and a little insight into the residents of Sandy Cove.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sandy Cove November 14, 2012
Format:Paperback
Steven Recht literally takes us to Sandy Cove, a place where we can enjoy a sunset, some seafood and a glass (or bottle) of wine. While there, we meet interesting people who are on a paths of rediscovery. The reader has no problem slipping into the lives of the two major players, Tom and Jenny, while the author develops the supporting characters with charming vignettes. It is an easy and comfortable ride, with lessons about life, love and hope for the future. I recommend it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Steven Recht set up each chapter with detailed descriptions of the events and its surroundings. It was very easy to imagine Sandy Cove and each of the characters. Throughout life I think we all know a character like Tom and his struggles. Excellent book.

Nothing deep to plow through. A very nice but sometimes sad look at the lives of people and how we are all connected.
