This review is from: Sandy's Incredible Shrinking Footprint (Hardcover)
"Sandy's Incredible Shrinking Footprint" is a wonderful eco-book that teaches kids and adults a variety of ways in which we all can shrink our footprint on the earth. Aimed at an audience of 5-9 years olds, "Sandy's Incredible Shrinking Footprint" uses a beach encounter with the Garbage Lady to teach Sandy to learn to think of ways to shrink her footprint, like recycling her pop cans, walking or biking instead of taking car rides, growing some of the food we eat, starting a compost heap, etc. The message of the Garbage Lady is not forgotten by Sandy and her family and it arrives in time for Earth Hour (March 27) and Earth Day (April 22) celebrations with families and children everywhere. Brilliantly colorful multi media (recycled materials?) collage illustrations underline the message of "Sandy's Incredible Shrinking Footprint."

A fantastic book for a variety of ages!,
This review is from: Sandy's Incredible Shrinking Footprint (Hardcover)
I've read this book to people of all ages from 4 years old to adults (most of whom can read it on their own). I have yet to meet anyone who is not charmed by the writing style, the striking visuals, and the simple and direct message contained in it. It avoids being preachy while still getting its message across. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good book for a young child.

Good discussion-starter,
This review is from: Sandy's Incredible Shrinking Footprint (Hardcover)
On a trip to the beach, Sandy is horrified at a pile of trash she encouters. As she cleans up the mess, she meets the "Garbage Lady," an eccentric woman who cleans up the beach. The Garbage Lady teaches Sandy about her environmental "footprint" and how to reduce it. The illustrations were created using recycled and natural material.
My eight-year-old son hadn't heard of the term "environmental footprint," so we had fun talking about what that meant, and what we as a family do to reduce our footprint. I have included this book in my online Gender Equality Bookstore. |
