Great daily reference--in clinic and hospital,
By family doc (Wisconsin, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Sanford Guide to Antimicrobial Therapy, 2005 (Paperback)
Great quick pocket reference, use it daily for both out-pt and in-pt infectious disease treatment. Details first line therapy (and includes pediatric doses), and gives concise clinical criteria for back-up choices (eg. treatment failures, associated comorbidities, drug allergic patients).
The ID guys never question my antimicrobial choices! If Sanford can't give you an answer, then and only then will you need to call in the ID specialists. The print is pretty small though, so if you've got poor eyesight, go for the larger print spiral-bound edition. I just wish I was able to use PDA version...

One of the definitive texts on "what antibiotic do I use as first line, or second line, or...". takes a little while to get the organization of the text (I got an entire 2 hour class on how to use it in school, which was nice). Be warned, certain resistances (MRSA, for instance) are outpacing annual editions of books. Recommended!

This is a truly indispensable guide-- I keep one at every site where I work (I am a primary care nurse practitioner). I highly recommend it for any health care provider!

A must-have!,
This review is from: Sanford Guide to Antimicrobial Therapy 2006 (Guide to Antimicrobial Therapy (Sanford)) (Paperback)
This little guide may seem confusing at first glance, but it is quite helpful once you figure out how to use it! You'll still need a prescribing reference for dosages, etc. but this gives you a place to start.

Always a great help for any medical student or resident, especially in primary care. If you're going to be culturing something, you need to know what to treat empirically with until the C&S comes back, and that's where Sanford's is a great help. It's not quite an ID consult, but it works until they show up.

This has been a critical reference guide to antibiotic prescribing in my clinical practice; I consider it indispensible. As usual, pricing, delivery and item integrity were superb.

The sanford guide has a wealth of information in it, but it takes some time to become familiar with its organization.
