5.0 out of 5 stars Short and Sweet...
I work as a hospitalist in a busy community hospital. I use a commercial software product as a quick reference for other meds, but still stick with this classic reference for antibiotics and sensitivities. Small and lightweight, it doesn't take up much room in your pocket. Med students and residents in particular shouldn't leave home without it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good book, July 29, 2007

I bought this book upon starting my residency and i have to say that i found it to be very useful. It covers all the infectious diseases, even those we might never see in our practice. the best part tough is that it includes empiric treatment guidelines, 2nd 3rd or even 4th line antimicrobial agents for every infection. This way it can solve the problem with patients being allergic to specific antibiotics, that many times are the mainstay in treating infectious diseases. I think this book can't serve its purpose any better than it does

The Sanford Guide is the perfect pocket book with valuable and up-to-date information related with the antimicrobial therapy. It is so useful for the ER, ICU resident, specially the Internist and Family doctor, but for any specialty and setting of the daily practice.
It's information is relevant not just for the US medical doctors, even in the most difficult and isolated areas you can look for the different treatment choices and find a good guide in order to resolve the infectious problem of your patient; from the simpliest skin bacterial infection through TB, HIV, parasites and other mayor infectious diseases.

This is a nice concise book, easy to follow, and small enough to keep in your lab coat.

4.0 out of 5 stars font too small, February 26, 2008

I wouldn't advise getting the little one, the font is just too small and puts a strain on the old eyes. There is a step up version that still fits into your pocket. As far as the content is concerned, a must have if you ask me.

This review is from: The Sanford Guide to Antimicrobial Therapy, 2008 (Paperback)
With new antibiotics and resistances changing almost daily, this is a great GENERAL guide for choices for antimicrobial therapy. Using this guide, along with your local or hospital pathogen and susceptibility report, are all you need to make the right choice given the diagnosis.
