Great speaker, Fast shipping!,

This review is from: Sangean Pillow Speaker PS-100 - White
I bought this speaker for my elderly mother after her Radio Shack model quit working, and we found out is no longer available. Even though she wears a hearing aid during the day, she likes this model very much and can listen to her TV at night without distortion even without her aid.

Great except no volume control,

The speaker works great. It has excellent sound reproduction. But no volume control is a real handicap. I went to Radio Shack and bought a little device that I put it into that produces the volume control I need, but then I have to make sure to drape the cord somewhere where I can get at it easily in the dark to change the volume. In short, it's a pain. But it's the best pillow speaker I could find after Radio Shack discontinued theirs, which had a volume wheel right on the speaker so you could just reach easily under the pillow and adjust the volume.Radio Shack, bring back your d**n Pillow Speaker!

Wish I could find a pillow speaker that holds up (once had a Sony that lasted years and years). This is another speaker that sounds good and is relatively comfortable but breaks down after only 1-2 years. Like so many other models we've all read about in Amazon reviews, the cord connection has failed on this one and sound is spotty at best. Clearly, even general use that we don't think is all that abusive actually is; has anyone found a pillow speaker that is built to last?

It's a pretty simple device. It has a volume switch (Hi-low-off) and sounds pretty good. The sound is closer to a headphone--you actually hear pretty good bass. I agree with the other reviewers that the cord is kind of delicate. It is the same cord as those really old-fashioned ear phones you used at the ball games decades ago. If it had a beefier cord it would be perfect.

I've used Radio Shack's slim pillow speakers for last 20 years plus. Each one usually lasted 3-4 years before one strand of the wire would wear and break. In August, when I needed a new speaker and stopped at Radio Shack, the clerk said "Sorry, no more." I was dumbfounded - how could they NOT carry what I've been buying for years! After extensively searching online, I finally came to conclusion that the Sangean #PS-100 was the closest replacement... however at a price 5 times the Radio Shack unit. Nevertheless, if I wanted the radio under my pillow all night - what's guy gonna do! Well ... it arrived a few weeks ago; and yes, it is significantly larger and thicker than Radio Shack. Since I use a thick, king size pillow, that hasn't been a problem. The sound quality is good; actually better than good - better response than the Radio Shack. I'm pleased thus far; now... see how long it will last ... especially at this price.

A bit large, but still a better bet than Ambien or Lunesta.,

This one replaces a Sharper Image pillow speaker that got left behind on a trip. The Sangean costs about ten dollars more and is twice as large as the Sharper Image speaker. With the silver-dollar-sized Sharper Image, the user's challenge was to find a pillow that didn't, in effect, absorb all of the sound before it reached the pending sleeper's hearing; the challenge with the larger Sangean, on the other hand, is to find a pillow large and soft enough to prevent the speaker from feeling like a rock underneath the sleeper's ear.Nonetheless, this is one installation for which a "passive" (non-battery operated) speaker is ideal, since the last thing the listener wants is room-filling sound, or anything close to it. The device will probably be more effective for those who listen to music intently, following developing motives, etc., rather than for those hoping to be "relaxed" into sleeping by the "soothing" strains of music. If you can be absorbed by musical "content" (rather than ambience, textures, audio fidelity), you're apt to find the musical information from a pillow speaker sufficiently distracting to "turn off" the internal "noise" that prevents falling asleep. Otherwise, it may not do the job. For some folks, especially fans of "mood music," a clock radio with a sleep timer will probably prove more effective. Sangean is definitely a name you can trust in audio. Nevertheless, I had some problems with the unit initially shorting out on me. Moving the 3-position volume switch rapidly back and forth seems to have taken care of the problem.

This is an excellent pillow speaker. The volume is easy to control, very comfortable to sleep on and still hear perfectly. It is solidly built and is the best I have used. The cord is long, giving ample room from your player to your pillow, and I have not had any problems with static from the cord which sometimes happens in some models. Great product. Purchased through Amazon.
