Decent sound quality and reception,

This is the best tiny radio I know of. I've tried others that are built into headphones (too heavy!) or strap onto the wrist (sound & reception less good) or that sell for cheap at the drugstore (awful reception). From the suburbs it pulls in the NPR station just fine (some small radios don't). I like that the tuner is analog, not digital. In my experience, the cheap digital tuners in other small radios cut in and out annoyingly on marginal stations. Sounds great with better headphones (I use Grado SR80). I lent it to my girlfriend and she kept saying, "It's so cute!"

After 6 years: My Review,

I bought this little radio from C. Crane Co. six years ago and it's still going strong. I have dropped it about every third day. I have left it outside in the rain a few times. I have probably torn up 50 pair of earbuds that were connected to it. I use it primarily to go to sleep, as my wife can't abide the sound of talk radio. I usually turn it on and stick it into the pillow case, sometimes it makes it all night and sometimes it gets jerked out.
Besides the ruggedness of the design, the components that would usually give you trouble were obviously top quality - I am speaking of the potentiometer (volume control) and the variable capacitor (tuning wheel). Not the first hint of scratchiness in either. Uses one AAA battery which can be easily changed in the dark, although at the volume level I use the battery will last a week or about 4 days 24-7. The bad - Nothing really except: The tuning is sensitive, especially in the dark when I travel. At home, I usually keep it tuned to one station. When I travel, I usually get into bed and then realize I have to find a station, and if I am trying to tune into a faint station the tuning is easy to overshoot and with no visual reference (the dial isn't easy to see even with the light on), I have to hunt it down again. This Sangean is as good as it gets for it's size; the AM reception is fantastic for the size, and the sound on FM is Big through good earphones. I can honestly recommend this little radio, and unless you run over it or flush it down the toilet, it'll probably last you a lifetime. But, if I only wanted an FM receiver, I might consider something cheaper or an MP3 player with FM. NOTE: I hadn't read the other reviews before I wrote this. Regarding the one star review: This is a very small radio. It will not receive signals that other radios can't. It uses the wire to the earphones as an FM antenna. The neat thing - it will receive MOST of the signals larger radios can...

Great little radio!,

I've had mine for around 5 years and it's been great! I haven't used it all that much, I usually use my mp3 players, but when I want to listen to AM radio I listen at work. Like it says, it's the size and weight of a bic lighter. It's always had really good reception as far as I'm concerned. The only down side which took a star away is that it doesn't have digital tuning. This is the second one I've bought, I sold the other to a friend but missed it so much I had to buy it again, LOL! I recently misplaced it, and decided to upgrade to the Sangean DT-180 which is small and digital, but $20 more expensive. Sangean has a good reputation in radios, and I think they deserve it!

Tiny, good, but not great,

I needed a pocket radio for walking - and this does the job. I want to pick up the local NPR stations, which can be a little difficult because there are higher-power stations nearby on the dial. This radio is tiny (yeah!) and I can get the stations I need. There is some interference from other stations - but there is on my clock radio at home, too. Controls are easy to use.

The radio broke putting in the battery,

I opened up the radio to put the battery in and the battery cover snapped off. Then, when I used electrical tape to hold it back together it still didn't work. Yeah it was cheap but I got the same result as if I went to a website, ordered an empty box, got it in two days (free shipping because I'm prime), threw out the box, tore up a couple of twenties and threw them in the garbage.
My search for a decent portable radio continues while I miss some decent local sports. Bummer.

I bought this as a present for my husband for Christmas. He absolutely loves it. He wasn't sure if the AM would work well but in fact, it does. It's perfect since it's pocket-sized. Definitely would recommend this product.

Run away,
This review is from: Sangean SR-2Y Ultra Thin Pocket Size AM/FM Radio (Yellow) (Electronics)
This product is terrible. I cannot get the thing to stay on a station, it jumps all over the place. For some reason the FM doesn't work at all and it is built really cheap. I expected alot more for my Thirty bucks.

A disappointment,
This review is from: Sangean SR-2Y Ultra Thin Pocket Size AM/FM Radio (Yellow) (Electronics)
First, it is a great size. After that things begin to decline. The reception for both am and fm is poor. I tried the radio under a variety of conditions and never got a clear signal. I'm afraid I can't recommend this. It's bad enough that I'm ordering another radio.
