small radio, small sound,

I purchased this radio mainly because of the built in speaker and that part of the stereo works great. the sound of it is amazing for the small size. BUT when i plug in my headphones(my own, not the ones they supplied) it sounded so flat and hollow. Also sangean products have a reputation for getting good reception but this radio does not. My CHEAPER sony walkman gets better reception with a lot less hiss. I am going to return this radio and either try a different brand or give a higher quality sangean a try.

Nice size little pocket radio with great sound. Even picked up stations in our downstairs, which is underground.

Great Radio in a Small Package,

For over a decade I've used a cheap radio hanging around my neck when out biking in NYC most afternoons and nights. In some neighborhoods, or after dark, reception of my favorite NPR station vanished. The Sangean -- the same size and weight as my old one, and also with a neck strap that makes it great for biking -- has solved that. Wish I'd found this radio 10 years ago. It's slightly more expensive, but still cheap. However, the station never wanders, even in the NYC neighborhoods where I'd never before been able to receive my favorite station. It even gets decent reception in my building elevator, something no small radio had ever achieved before.

I previously bought a cheap colby brand radio of similar dimensions but it all of a sudden stopped working so I paid the extra money for the Sangean.
After a few weeks of using it, there are really no problems with it. Goes off of one AAA battery but it doesn't drain the battery as fast as the colby that I had. Tunes in most stations clearly, even the ones at the beginning and end of the dial. Bottom line, its worth the money paid.

This is a great little radio for the price. Good quality too. I pick up tons of AM stations at night. That's what I bought this radio for, to pick up the AM stations. Better than any other radio I've had. I love the size of it, as it states, pocket radio. It fit's nicely in the palm of your hand. I would buy another Sangean radio, I'm impressed with it. Better off buying a good radio than a bunch of cheap ones.

I purchased my Sangean SR-3 as an everyday carry (EDC) for my Rickshaw
Zero customized messenger bag. This radio is of good built quality, sound and durability. The fact that the SR-3 is light, fits in the palm of your hand, and has a long battery life [using only a single AAA battery] were the key factors in my purchasing decision. Update June 2011: Still love my Sangean SR-3, however, for a lot less money checkout the Kaito KA200 AM/FM pocket radio ($12) also available on Amazon. I use my Sangean SR-3 as my home emergency radio b/c it runs for 60 hours on a single AAA battery and my Kaito KA200 is in my Timbuk2 messenger bag EDC purposes.

Well, I've to admit that these days I no longer listen toradios, for I shift to web-based radios through the Internet. However, sangean was my favorite shortwave radio brand for: 1, goog sound quality; |
