I ordered 2 sets of these bowls. They were shipped from Amazon in a large box with no packing material. Each set was in its original box, but no packing there either. Out of the 8 shipped, 6 survived. No help from Amazon. Very dissapointing.
The bowls themselves are very nice. If you find them locally you will be happy with them.

The bowls arrived broken into a zillion tiny pieces of glass: totally worthless. The packaging was flimsy. Obviously, no care was taken that the items arrived undamaged. Buyer beware!

I really wanted these bowls, bad enough to take a chance despite all of hte reviews that said they arrived broken. I figured some were as old as December and Amazon/Sango would have figured out how to package fragile bowls for delivery by now. I was wrong. My first order contained two boxes of 4 each. Only 1 bowl made it to me intact, the other 7 had broken handles or were broken into so many pieces they were unrecognizable. Amazon was great in getting a replacement order to me right away, and I feel lucky that the second order had 6 bowls intact and two broken. I'm going to stick with the 6...odds are that is the most that would make it through any shipment given the poor packaging from Sango.

Despite the troubles, the bowls are great. I would recommend finding them in your local store though instead of having them shipped.

Normally I would be against leaving a negative review for a product based on shipping rather than the product itself, but in this case I have to go against my principles, mainly to ensure no one else falls in this trap. I don't know what I was thinking when I ordered these. I read all of the reviews, especially the ones about the poor shipping, but I figured I would take a gamble. Out of 4 bowls, 2 of them were completely smashed. I don't mean they just had the handles broken off; they were broken into at least 50 pieces. Looking at the packaging Amazon provided, I don't see how it is at all possible for anyone to receive all four of these intact. UPS delivery men WILL throw your package around. It's done at the sorting center, it's done when they transfer them to the trucks, it's done when they leave it at your house. Normally this isn't a problem since most packages are packaged well enough to survive this. But unless, by some miracle, UPS is as gentle as a kitten with your box the entire way to your door, expect it to arrive busted up.

HOW TO GET A COMPLETE SET: I have requested this soup set three times now and received broken soup bowls every time. If you are patient and want to get a complete set, hold onto the broken bowls you get the first time. Odds are that at least 1 or 2 of the bowls survived. Contact Amazon and request an exchange for another one. They will go ahead and send you a replacement immediately. Wait until you get the replacement before you return your broken bowls. If the replacement set has broken bowls (it will), replace the good bowls from your first set with the broken ones from the replacement, and send that back to Amazon. Keep doing this until you have a complete set. As far as I know, this isn't against Amazon's policies and you're actually helping them as well, since they won't have to keep sending you sets until you are lucky enough to get one with all 4 bowls intact.

UPDATE: I ordered these bowls three times. Out of 12 bowls, 8 of them were broken. I finally got a complete set by mixing and matching as described above. My last order did have a lot of packaging from Amazon, but it makes no difference because the original packaging is poor as well, and the cups bang against each other in the box. Even if Amazon stuffs their box with soft baby kittens, the bowls are likely to be broken because they're not properly packed in the original box either.

Sango does some terrible packaging with these bowls. I ordered a set of 4, and 3 were broken. They seem to be very nice, but I'll be returning them and will try to find them locally. I would advise you to NOT have these delivered to you in any way.

Received the bowls yesterday, and once again very upset to find 3 of the 4 broken. This has got to be costing a ton of money in refunds and shipping. I will not try again for a replacement, I didn't do well with the Sango mixing bowls either. Can't understand why these are shipped with such little packing material?

When I saw my aging husband gingerly trying to carry a bowl of soup into my newly-carpeted living room (he will never abide by the no eating in the living room rule!), I knew it was time to act! And, as it happened, a friend had just given me a recipe for the "best onion soup ever". These bowls were definitely the answer! They hold just as much as any of my soup bowls. And the handle does not get hot as the cheese melts perfectly. And I have one hand free to hold my cane while I carry the soup bowl in the other hand. They are dishwasher safe and I love the blue color. My husband says I solved another problem!

I agree with the other reviews, bowls are fantastic but I also had them arrive the first time around, with broken handles and had to return one box, Amazon was great and sent me out another set, unfortunately some were broken again. But the bowls themselves are really great.

After reading other reviews I thought that Amazon certainly would have figured out that the packaging is not adequate for shipping. They have not! I place an order for 2 x 4 bowls. Two of the eight bowls had broken handles. One could say they have not gotten a handle on this problem.

I suggest ordering your needs + 1. Ship back the inevitable broken ones free of charge and enjoy the bowls.

Oh yea, about the bowls, they are a bit deep for me but I do like them.

I bought this as a Christmas present for someone. When they opened it, every single one of the bowls had the handle broken off. One of the bowls itself, was broken.

The person tried to fix them. By the time I found out they were broken it was past the return date.

I was very disappointed in the packing and shipping.
