5.0 out of 5 stars Handcrafted Look (Without the Price)
I have a modest pottery collection and open kitchen shelving. I wanted a set of dishes that appear to be hand crafted but without the enormous price tag that comes with artisan work. 1.0 out of 5 stars Dishes are beautiful, but chip very easily
I owned a set of these dishes for 4 years. They were beautiful, and we always received compliments on them, but I definitely would not recommend them for daily use. Most of the bowls chipped as did several of the plates.

I have a modest pottery collection and open kitchen shelving. I wanted a set of dishes that appear to be hand crafted but without the enormous price tag that comes with artisan work. Sango Splash fits right in. The pieces are large and have a nice weight. The glossy "splash" is a nice contrast to the flat earthy texture of the dishes. The texture is a little gritty and there are evident brush marks in the design (especially so on the pitcher and baking pieces- sold separately). I have noted, and will heed the warnings, that previous reviewers have experienced cracking and chipping in the smoother "splash" portion of the pattern. For the price, I'm willing to pay for a replacement here and there (but, haven't had any cracks or chips yet). Replacements.com sells single pieces in this pattern if you have a mishap. The only drawback of the set, I feel, is that it is made in China. I didn't know that until after my purchase. I researched the set on the Sango USA site assuming it was made in the United States...but, like so many other things...apparently not. Lastly, I will have to agree with a previous reviewer...the pieces are larger than most dishes. For that reason I am providing the following dimensions (make sure they'll fit in your dishwasher): Dinner Plate: 11", Salad Plate: 8 1/4", Bowl 7 3/4" x 2 1/2" Deep. The bowls are very wide (more like pasta serving bowls) so I purchased the set of Ice Cream Bowls in addition to my set. The Ice Cream Bowls are perfect for soups and of course...ice cream.

I purchased this pattern over a year ago and never tire of it! The pictures simply don't do it justice. I have 10 place settings plus lots of "extras" & it sets a handsome table. The dishes go safely in the microwave, they go through the dishwasher just fine as well. With their unusual finish...primitive, then the splash of glaze on each, I was unsure how they'd stand up. They are also pretty break resistant too. I've only lost one cup & that was due to my ceramic tile countertops and ceramic tile floor. The warm earthy tones of this dinnerware makes it easy to tie in other earthtones for napkins, centerpiece, etc. They look quite fine on my cream colored rattan table. And after all...choosing a dinnerware set is a whole lot more than just selecting something "suitable"...it's great fun to have it "glow" whether it's a dinner for 2 or a luncheon for 10. Yes...I am very pleased with the quality, style, & durability of Sango Splash!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible, August 8, 2007

This review is from: Sango Splash 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4 (Kitchen)
We bought 2 of these dish sets, along with the square salad plates a couple of months ago. Although they look great...the surface is very rough. This causes terrible "scratching" noises when utensils slide across the surface. A knife cutting across the surface of these plates will send shivers down your spine...sort of like fingernails on a chalkboard. The dishes feel rough and gritty. I would recommend getting dishes that have a smooth finish.

1.0 out of 5 stars They break and chip way too easy!!, December 31, 2007
This review is from: Sango Splash 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4 (Kitchen)
I've owned different stoneware and was very disappointed on the durability. They break very easily and many of my plates have chips. I agree with another reviewer that the dishes heat up extremely hot in the microware. Another downside is that they are made in China. On looking at several department stores just about every dishware set is made in China. A recent article in a local paper indicated that if you have dishes from China you should test for lead. Because of this reason I have just bought Fiestaware which is made in the US and is totally lead free! From searching on the internet these dishes appear to be very durable. I would definitely stay away from the Sango dishes.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love my new dishes!, October 13, 2007
This review is from: Sango Splash 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4 (Kitchen)

I've had so many compliments on my new dinnerware! Everone thinks I had them custom made for me by a potter. I love that they are all slightly different too. The texture and feel of the pieces are different from any 'store bought' sets I've ever owned. I think I got the bargain of the year buying these! If you like the natural, earthy look at your dinner table, I highly recommend these.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pretty but not durable, September 14, 2007
This review is from: Sango Splash 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4 (Kitchen)
My wife and I bought 2 of the four place settings, along with the cream/sugar set and the serving platter/serving bowl about 3 years ago. We thought this was an aesthetically pleasing pattern. I can accept some chipping due to careless handling, but I am disappointed by a problem with the salad plates. If you look at the picture, there is a spiral quality to the glaze/finish. We have had 5 of these plates break in the dishwasher, with failures along the spirals --- breaking into crescent shaped fragments. I would not buy this product again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning!, June 7, 2006
By
This review is from: Sango Splash 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4 (Kitchen)
I bought 2 sets of these dishes plus many matching items; serving bowls, platters and several pieces of oven-safe (and microwave safe) bakeware.

The picture "almost" does them justice. I had imagined the glaze would be shiny. It isn't. It is a matt finish. They are just so different and so stunning in person. I could not be happier with my choice.

The items were also packaged exceptionally well.
