Although I can definitely sympathize with shipping issue, I have had these dishes for about a year and a half and have not chipped one yet. I have service for 16 (big family) and we use them every day. From sink to table to dishwasher and away again... I have had no problems.

Well I ordered these through Amazon and some of the items came broken. I called Amazon and sent a replacement order very quickly and all the items are intact. I am very happy with the purchase as it goes well with our current set of Sango dinner and salad plates.

For those of us who like things to look a little bit earthy, Sango's Splash Brown stoneware is really a steal. It gives you a handmade look... without the handmade price.

Each piece sticks to the same scheme, but every piece is a little different, due to the way the "splashed-on" glaze is applied and fired. The base color, the "brown" referred to in the name, is not just brown -- it's a semi-flat glaze with striated sets of rich coffee tones ranging from pale to espresso. The "splash" is a full-gloss glaze in grey-blues, grey-greens, and richer & darker coffee colors. The contrast between the semi-flat base colors and the full-gloss splashes give this pattern a lot of visual interest and handmade appeal.

The Hostess Set is gorgeous, no question. The butter dish is rather big (as far as 1/4 lb butter dishes go), and my mother threatened to steal it the moment she saw it. Although the salt and pepper shakers look a bit (for lack of a better word) lumpy in Amazon's pictures, that's an optical illusion resulting from the striations in the base glaze -- the salt and pepper shakers are cylindrical with straight, smooth sides. Like the butter dish, the shakers are also slightly bigger than one typically encounters, but the unexpected size lends a lot to their charm and handmade look.

Because of the variety of colors in the different glazes, this set could easily be integrated into other sets/patterns of dishes, be they stoneware, china, glass, or whatever -- making this Hostess Set a great gift. Of course, if you see this set in person, you'll probably want to keep it for yourself.

The Sango Splash line of dinnerware is gorgeous, no doubt about it. It's got a lovely combination of colors and textures and it feels great in the hand. So what's the problem? It chips. I've had a set of eight place settings plus various serving pieces and other extras for about two years. At last count, there were five pieces with chips and one cracked cup. That doesn't say much for the set's longevity, especially since I don't use these every day.

I ordered this set for a co-worker who had purchased the dishes at some store in Indiana on a trip home. All she wanted to complete her set was the salt and pepper shakers, and I found this for her here on Amazon. We ordered and returned them not one, not two, but THREE TIMES because this seller either can not or will not package the items in such a way that they don't break during shipping. Amazon isn't at fault, of course. Their return policy made everything easy to do, and the refund has already been credited, but if you're cooking.com and you see the same thing come back three times because it got broken in transit, wouldn't you try to package it differently at least once? Incredibly frustrating.

The Sango Splash is a gorgeous set. It's sturdy and quite unique in appearance. I am picking up the pieces here and there and really enjoy amassing my collection. This particular set has a covered butter dish and a set of salt and pepper shakers. Everything is proportioned quite well; not too large and not too small. I highly recommend this set.

I love the Splash design. I have ordered the canister set and the au gratin dish. I'm planning on ordering other pieces, but not the dinnerware - my husband can't stand the utensils scraping on the finish otherwise I would have those, too. So, I'm happy to have the other pieces. They are so unique, and well made. I have had the augratin dish for a while and it has held up nicely, no chips. My teenage kids clean the kitchen and aren't very gentle, so durability and quality are important. Ordering from Amazon is great and customer service can't be beat.

Although we don't use the Sango Splash dinnerware anymore, we still use the butter dish and salt/pepper because it looks good with the new stoneware we purchased.

Here are the negatives, though: The holes for the salt shaker are too big, and a ton of salt comes out unless you're very careful every time you use it. The glossy design on the butter dish top is right where you put your hands to pick up the lid, unfortunately, and makes it slippery.

I love this set! The salt & pepper shakers are the perfect size. The first set I ordered was broken and Amazon Quickly sent me another set. The price was great also.

We love the Sango Splash set. It looks even better in person. The dishes are heavy and durable. I'm SO glad we went with this line and have more listed on our wish list for future purchases!!
