No matter how much you look at something on your computer, it's always a surprise when you actually see it . The bowls are classy, with clean lines, have a good weight to them, and come with a finish of a combination of a glaze and matte finish, mostly matte. They're so worth the price, and
Sango has their own in-house testing for lead and cadmium. I'd prefer indepentdent testing, but you can't have everything.

Received soup bowls yesterday, very poorly packed, with only one piece of packing paper separating them from each other. Therefore, one was completely broken and now must be sent back. Also, ordered "onion" soup bowls assuming they could go in the oven to melt the cheese on top of the soup - this is what you do with an "onion" soup bowl - only to find they are not ovenproof. Very disappointed with Amazon!

I just love this set so much I have everything you can get in it. I ordered 3 sets of the onion soup bowls, my only complain 2 of the bowls arrived broken, the handles was broken of. So instead of the 12 I wanted I just have 10. I think something should be done about the way this stuff is packed.

I rated these 4 stars sine these are pretty cool soup bowls. I ordered them from Amazon since I couldn't find them in the stores around me. The price was actually really good and I wanted them to add to my splash dinnerware set. Only problem is that one of the handles were broken. =( It wasn't Amazons fault. They actually packed it really well. It was poor packing from the Sango company. The return policy is quite painless. So, now I am anxiously awaiting my new soup bowls.

These soup bowls are very breakable, two orders received were damaged in shipment. Many imperfections, and very hard to clean. I would not recommend them to anyone.

I sent them back. They were nothing like I expected nor are they anything like what was advertised. The picture depicts the bowls as being glazed. This is correct only in part. The part that faces out on the picture is glazed, the rest of the bowl is not. This is not dishwasher safe, nor is it oven safe. Besides which, it feels yucky when you touch it. In addition, I'm not happy about having to pay shipping charges to return something because it was inaccurately portrayed on your website. This gives me considerable pause when it comes to ordering from Amazon.com in the future.

I was ordering this for my husband who loves french onion soup. While most of the reviews stated that the bowls were good to use for this purpose, almost every single review noted that their bowls had arrived broken and it was a painful process to get a full set.
I was hesitant to order them because of the reviews, but liked them and figured at least I knew what I was in for. I received them VERY quickly and not a single one was scratched. The packaging was great and they are beautiful bowls.
I wanted to put this in here in case they have improved on their shipping process or otherwise remedied the problem so that others will go ahead and order them if this is what they want.

Normally I would be against leaving a negative review for a product based on shipping rather than the product itself, but in this case I have to go against my principles, mainly to ensure no one else falls in this trap. I don't know what I was thinking when I ordered these. I read all of the reviews, especially the ones about the poor shipping, but I figured I would take a gamble. Out of 4 bowls, 2 of them were completely smashed. I don't mean they just had the handles broken off; they were broken into at least 50 pieces. Looking at the packaging Amazon provided, I don't see how it is at all possible for anyone to receive all four of these intact. UPS delivery men WILL throw your package around. It's done at the sorting center, it's done when they transfer them to the trucks, it's done when they leave it at your house. Normally this isn't a problem since most packages are packaged well enough to survive this. But unless, by some miracle, UPS is as gentle as a kitten with your box the entire way to your door, expect it to arrive busted up.

HOW TO GET A COMPLETE SET: I have requested this soup set three times now and received broken soup bowls every time. If you are patient and want to get a complete set, hold onto the broken bowls you get the first time. Odds are that at least 1 or 2 of the bowls survived. Contact Amazon and request an exchange for another one. They will go ahead and send you a replacement immediately. Wait until you get the replacement before you return your broken bowls. If the replacement set has broken bowls (it will), replace the good bowls from your first set with the broken ones from the replacement, and send that back to Amazon. Keep doing this until you have a complete set. As far as I know, this isn't against Amazon's policies and you're actually helping them as well, since they won't have to keep sending you sets until you are lucky enough to get one with all 4 bowls intact.

UPDATE: I ordered these bowls three times. Out of 12 bowls, 8 of them were broken. I finally got a complete set by mixing and matching as described above. My last order did have a lot of packaging from Amazon, but it makes no difference because the original packaging is poor as well, and the cups bang against each other in the box. Even if Amazon stuffs their box with soft baby kittens, the bowls are likely to be broken because they're not properly packed in the original box either.

I gave them as a gift, and get to use them as well.
They are just the right size, and hold soup hot.
I am back now to order anoither set.

I was specifically looking for soup bowls so I could make French Oinon soup, but I need soup bowls that were oven safe. These bowls were perfect and they work well in the oven or in the microwave. However, I would suggest thoroughly washing the bowls before using them because they have a weird coating on them that takes a couple of washes to remove.
