More About the Author
Raised in a small eastern Ontario town, I dreamed of becoming a journalist. I ended up working as a newspaper reporter, magazine writer, and movie critic for the Toronto Star. Tiring of the grind of daily journalism (although I loved it for many years) I left the newspaper business to write books and scripts.
I've lived in Toronto, Los Angeles, Montreal, and now reside in the town of Milton, about 40 minutes west of Toronto. But the city I love most is Paris. I visited for the first time thirty years ago, and have been returning ever since. I've written a couple of movies there, as well as the pilot for a television series -- it didn't matter what happened to the projects, the point was to spend more time in Paris.
Now I've written a new novel set in Paris at the turn of the century. It's titled "The Strange." It concerns a mysterious, beautiful international confidence woman who sets out to sell the Eiffel Tower, and the fourteen-year-old orphan boy who is determined to stop her. There is magic, mystery, and, of course, Paris.

I loved the first segment of Sanibel Sunset Detective so I couldn't wait to get the next edition. I was not disappointed. The sequel has many twists and turns in the plot and keeps you interested. I in fact read the whole book in a few hours. Couldn't put it down! Love all the references to Sanibel/Captiva area, one of the most beautiful places I know! Can't wait for the next edition : ) I highly recommend this series!

WOW! Bought a book at the airport and I'm HOOKED! Couldn't put it down till the last page!
"The Sanibel Sunset Detective Returns" by Ron Base took me romping all over Southwest Florida with main character Tree Callister. So reminiscent of my adventures with John D.MacDonald's Travis McGee. Tree is now my new best friend.....I just wanted to jump into the book and help him out of the tight spots he gets himself into. What a wild adventure and what a nice guy. Tree is smart, funny, sensitive and....well, I wouldn't call him fearless, but at least capable. I LOVED this book,.....so today I ordered the previous one from Amazon.com...."The Sanibel Sunset Detective", I just had to know what Tree was up to before I met him.

Island life...,

This Sanibel detective story is enormously readable. It takes advantage of the special features of island life which includes that great feeling of separateness from the busy world and a lot of characters known to each other. It has that other feature of Florida novels which is a sometimes unsettling but really laid-back sense of humour. The writing is snappy and clear which helps you race through such a must read book and so I have only one complaint - it's not long enough. Or bring out the next one soon!
