5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful emotional story about an orphan boy looking for a family of his own.
This book will make you cry but it's such a wonderful moving story that teaches children (and adults) about friendship, empathy, love and the important things in life. A true gem in children's book but the japanese tv series (translated in various languages) is a must for everyone who can get a chance. As a child I watched it every day and laughed and cried every time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Reproduction Edition
This edition is a reproduction of a 1913 abridged text intended to be used in French language classes. It is both abridged and incomplete. In addition, there are pages missing and out of sequence. There is a diclaimer about this but it does not give the full extent of the problem. Anyone expecting the comlete text of the original in French will be sorely disappointed...

5.0 out of 5 stars French Dickensian story, January 3, 2004
By A Customer
This is the wonderfully moving story of an orphan who hopes to one day find his true family. There are many interesting subplots as well about the general condition of orphan children throughout 19th France, very much like Dickens revealed similar mistreatment of youth through his highly critical and scrutinizing enlightenment.
This story is bound to have you shed a few tears. If you ever the opportunity, watch the tv mini-series of the same title.
If a great tale for children, it remains an equally edifying narrative for adults. Read it !
