This review is from: Practical Sanskrit-English Dictionary Containing Appendices on Sanskrit Prosody and Important Literary and Geographical Names of Ancient India 2004 Deluxe Edition (Hardcover)
I am an entry-level Samskrit student. In order to supplement a very rudimentary Samskrit dictionary, I bought this dictionary based on external recommendations. However, I was misled by the title. The Apte dictionary that is generally recommended and is many times better than this book is called "The Practical Sanskrit-English dictionary - Revised and Enlarged edition". This book does not do a good job of indicating the grammatical form of the words which in my opinion is as important as defining the meaning in English.
This book is a cheap Indian Edition and is definitely not worth the price tag it comes with. The paper is very low quality, the print is barely visible on some pages and the cover was practically peeling-off right out of the box. I am returning my copy. |
