Home Town Memories, August 25, 2008
This review is from: Santa Clara (CA) (Images of America) (Paperback)
This book gave me a lot of information on my HomeTown that I did not know about. And it also brought back a lot of memories from when I was growing up there. I found only one flaw and that was the fact that when they refered to the Youth Club the called it the "Watzit" and the correct name for it is the "Wutzit Club". I also question some of the information on the Franck Mansion but it is only that we called it the Johnson House when I was growing up, And I believe that was Caroline's married name. So that is why in the 30's and 40's it was know as the Johnson House.
All in all it was a very good book.

Images...of Santa Clara, January 23, 2008
This review is from: Santa Clara (CA) (Images of America) (Paperback)
This is a really good book, full of descriptions and pictures of many of the stores and buildings in Santa Clara before "urban renewal" took it all away. Though I would have liked to see more of the stores, offices and buildings, maybe in more detail, it's still a very nice memoir of the Santa Clara that used to be. It also discusses some of the architecture of the buildings in town, which, of course, were lost on me as a child and taken for granted as an adult! It also includes facts and history of some of the people and families prominent in Santa Clara history, and the businesses they worked in or helped establish. A nicely done book worth adding to your keepsakes of the small town we used to know.
