5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the best Santa book ever published!, December 22, 1998
By
siandevine@bigpond.com.au (Perth, Western Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Santa Claus Book (Paperback)
Alden starts his book beautifully by telling, with superb imagination, the origin stories of the main characters in the book - Santa, Mrs Santa, the Elves, the creatures of the North Pole and of course the Reindeer. The author explains the mistique of Yuletide with the view of entertaining the child listener and adult reader. The questions that need answering are all handled in exquisite detail.

The illustrations are as entertaining as the wit, in the many stories that Alden must have concockted oops... researched, in his numerous trips to the North Pole and personal interviews with the "Big Fellow himself".

IT (Information technology)buffs will love the scientific explanations of; the flight of the reindeer, how a sleigh is loaded, what happens to non-believers, the Elvish language and their antics, coming down the chimney and most important, the marvels of Santa's toy workshop.

The book is devilishly clever and a must for any parent, teacher or child.

This is the best Santa Book ever! Good for all ages. We have made this part of our family tradition. Unique and fun information to keep children believing in Santa and full of the magic of Christmas,Santa, his elves, Mrs. Claus, etc. Makes Santa more real, yet more magic than ever. Great gift for children and new parents. This book should be published again in hard bound!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Treasure for all ages!, December 8, 2006
This review is from: The Santa Claus Book (Paperback)
I received this book as a gift from Santa (my father) on Saint Nicholas Day in 1987. Saint Nicholas Day was observed on the German side of my family. It was a family tradition to leave your letter for Santa in your stocking. On the morning of the 6th (St. Nicholas Day) he had not only taken his letter, but left you a little something behind in your stocking. This book was just a little more proof that Santa did exist. My Father did his best to keep me a believer. The Santa Claus Book will make you smile at any age. The illustrations rock, and every page is filled with a cute, humorous account of everything Santa. You get the scoop on the Elves, reindeer and the history of Santa's suit. There is even an illustration of what happens to non believers. I am 28 and I still believe! You will love this book and so will your children.

I loved the stories in this book when I was younger. Even as teenagers, my brother and I used to read various selections out of this each year around the holidays. It went out of print for a while, and now I am glad to have my own copy to read to my children. My five year old daughter loves it. She would have let us read the whole book at once I think. The format of a long research project is fun, and the various explanations from why Santa gives lumps of coal to how he fits down chimneys is imaginative and a lot of fun. Santa's best kept secret? You'll have to read the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Completely Magical Book!, November 28, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Santa Claus Book (Paperback)
I have no idea when this book came into my life - I can't remember a time without it. But for years, it was the first thing I dug out of the Christmas stuff in the attic sometime mid-November, and didn't put it down until it was time to go back in the box in January. It's still at my parent's house, and I go straight for it everytime I visit during the Christmas season. This book reads like a factual reference book on Santa, his history, the North Pole, the elves, reindeer, and everything associated with Christmas. Perkes is an amazing writer, and even the most jaded adult will begin to believe in Santa Clause all over again. The illustrations are beautiful, and the stories imaginative and funny and informative all at the same time. I am so grateful that I had this book in my life when I was growing up, and I can't wait to share it with my kids when I have them. I finally ordered my own copy of the book, and can't wait to receive it!

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED it!, December 3, 2007
This review is from: The Santa Claus Book (Paperback)
I always remember this book being around our house every Christmas, and I would read it over and over- poring over it for hours. Alden's presentation of research was so "scientific" and official-looking that I believed way after all the other kids my age! In fact, when other kids would tell me they didn't believe anymore, I would tell them they were wrong and their parents had lied- Santa Claus IS real, I have the book!

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite book, ever, December 21, 2006
This review is from: The Santa Claus Book (Paperback)
Santa gave me this book when I was still a baby, and I've had it ever since. I'm 21 now and I still think this is the greatest book to read during the holidays. It makes you smile because the way it's written is just really heartwarming and really puts you in the holiday spirit. My mom calls me every year to tell me she got 'the Santa Book' out because I think she loves it more than I do! haha.

I bought this book when my son was 8 years old and was starting to question Santa Claus. I wasn't ready to give up the fantasy yet! After reading to my son all of the "very scientific" explanations for the unbelieveable events, he was convinced for one more season! I love this book!
