5.0 out of 5 stars This Game is Actually Pretty Good December 19, 2011
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
If you are like me, you got really annoyed last year when you bought the "Rudolph" game made by the same company, got it home to play with the kids and it totally stunk. It was especially disappointing because the Rudolph movie is such a great classic, the game did the movie an injustice. I was a bit hesitant to buy this Santa game based on my prior bad experience, however, I read the positive reviews here and decided to give it a chance. I was pleasantly surprised how good this game actually is and how it is nothing like the Rudolph mess. It is a charming, side scrolling platformer (similar to a 2D Mario game), you pickup snowflakes and pass out toys as you travel across the screen. The graphics are decent and the holiday music is pleasant. The difficulty level (fairly low) is just right for younger kids and will even hold the attention of older kids. My kids are having a lot of fun playing this one, it is by far the best Christmas game out there. Plus, the $20 price makes this game a no-brainer. Enjoy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent Christmas Fun November 28, 2011
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Last year we got Rudolph, which was very poorly made. This year, though, we get Santa Claus is Comin' to Town. Luckily, this year's Christmas game is definitely a step in the right direction.

Instead of just tiny mini-games like in Rudolph, Santa Claus is Comin' to Town is a full-fledged platforming game. Granted, it's definitely low budget through and through, which explains the low price. Regardless, this game's well worth the low price if you want to get in the Christmas mood.

The graphics are competent and well done in the same vein as the movie. The gameplay is all about jumping and collecting, like a Mario or something. While it's not on the same quality level as a Mario, which is to be expected, it's still fun enough to play. Jump around the environments, collecting snowflakes and delivering Christmas toys to boys and girls.

It's basic yet good solid fun. At the end of the day, isn't that what gaming is all about? It's not going to win any awards. It's a cheap Christmas game. However, it could definitely be a lot worse. For the cheap price, I have no problem recommending this game for some good ol' Christmas fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the kids December 8, 2011
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I love the holidays, especially Christmas. It's such a fun time of year and I get this overwhelming feeling of peace. I can remember when I was a kid and Christmas seemed like such a magical time. Playing Santa Claus is Comin' to Town! for Wii brought back all of my childhood memories and made me feel like I was traveling back in time. My four-year-old nephew went nuts when I showed up at his house with this game. He grabbed it out of my hands and put the game in the Wii, set up the TV and started playing. Yes, he can do all of that on his own. He was so excited and kept turning to me and saying, "look, it's Santa". When it was time for me to leave, he ran over kissed me real quick and went right back to his game. I love that little guy.

The game is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB. Playing this game allows you (or your children) to collect letters, snowflakes and find hidden stockings. You receive magical powers from the Winter Warlock, discover unlockable content and play 25 levels with platforming and mini games. Plus, you can get help from Topper the penguin when you use Multiplayer mode. Santa Claus is Coming to Town is the perfect game to get your kids hyped up for the holidays!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game for teh Family November 15, 2011

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I thought this game was fantastic. We bought to play with our nieces and nephews at Thanksgiving, but couldn't resist taking a run through this weekend. The game is clearly geared towards a younger, kid audience, and is based of the Santa Coming to Town special, and my 5-year old loved it. The ability to play as the Penguin allowed us to play together too, which was great. We smiled throughout, and can't wait to play with all his cousins this week.

Call of Duty it is not, but for families and kids everywhere, a home run!

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I picked this game up because my 4 and 5 year-old nephews love the Rankin-Bass holiday specials and are just getting into video games. For starters, the game captures the spirit of the original Santa Claus is Coming to Town tv special, following the complete storyline, offering perfect renderings of the characters, and getting some pretty good voice actors to replicate the original voices--it's just kind of odd that they didn't just lift the audio from the original special since the dialogue is exactly the same, but it must be some sort of licensing issue.

This is 25 levels of very simple platforming to warm them up for Mario! It's mostly collecting snowflakes, jumping on platforms, throwing toys to children, and finding the hidden stocking in each level. This offers the opportunity for children to recognize alternate platform paths before moving ahead to the end of a level. The basics of the game are played in classic controller style with the d-pad and 1 and 2 buttons.

To bring continued interest to the levels, some involve shaking the wiimote as instructed on the screen to build toys, fill stockings, or wipe frost away from windows. Plus, there ARE "enemes" -- the burger meister meister burger's soldiers. You have to sneak past them or jump over platforms to get away from them. If they grab you, you simply have to shake the wiimote to get away and stun them.

And then there are times when the winter warlock gives you power ups like higher jumps and faster running in order to get hard-to-grab snowflakes and stockings. Personally, a favorite level of my nephews is set to "Put One Foot in Front of the Other." It's also a challenging one because you can't go back if you miss a snowflake--you have to continue putting one foot in front of the other!
