Looking for irreverence in your holiday nut mix? Bob Rivers does such a great job of social, political, and seasonal satire under the guise of many a familiar holiday tune that he's lucky he hasn't been run over by a reindeer. Rivers apes all the department-store Santas (sung to the tune of "Here Comes Santa Claus") with "There's Another Santa Claus," lambastes "Teddy Kennedy the Red-Nosed Senator," and sends up Marlon Brando's Godfather in the inspired "A Letter to Santa," which warns of Santa's movement into mob territory. There are a few clunkers among the moving and snoozing targets, but Rivers nearly always elicits a chuckle. The biggest yuks, though, come on the title track as he reaches back to Black Sabbath's "I Am Ironman" classic to turn dear old Santa into a heavy-metal monster. Call it "Headnog"--and get it for the unholy rollers on your list. --Martin Keller

A couple of years ago, the lyrics to "Walkin' 'Round in Women's Underwear" were passed around the 'net with no credit given. It was hilarious. The following year I found the CD and discovered Bob Rivers' gift for satire.
Audio production is hurting a bit; Most of the music tracks are synthesized with few live musicians. But clearly the money and effort saved was spent on good singers and vocal production. That and the brilliant satirical lyrics are what makes the album work. In questionable taste? Definitely. Politically incorrect ? Oh yeah. But I've been a Spike Jones and Stan Freberg fan for years, so this is my cup of eggnog. This is absolutely a must-have for anyone who collects comedy recordings.

It started when the local DJ started playing "Walking Round In Women's Underwear" during the run up to Christmas. This was a big hit with the guys where I work, and I wanted to know more about this track. When I came across the CD, I thought "this should be interesting" and sent off for it. I'm glad I did, because it's a real hoot. Rivers sends up loads of my (and I dare say your) Xmas favourites (O Christmas tree played on a chainsaw, for example?) and the genres run from rock (I can't hear My Favourite Things from Mary Poppins without thinking of the version on this CD) to classical (the "What's It To Ya" chorus, my pick of the tracks) and while some are obviously there to pad out the space, I think you'll enjoy this one. I certainly did, and maybe I'll get one of Rivers' other CDs for next year.

My aunt always complained because I didn't listen to Christmas music around the holidays. I Am Santa Claus is hilarious (first Christmas album I actually liked), and she can no longer b!tch at me. The band does a really good job of disguising the song as the original until the vocals come in too. Teddy the red nosed senator, had a very shiny car, and if you ever saw it, you were probably near a bar.... :)

This is a great Christmas comedy album by our friend Bob Rivers. There are some clunkers on this CD which stop it from being a 5 star album, but the funny tunes that will make you cry and pee save it from being a 3 star album

1. There's Another Santa Claus - The album starts off with a funny and catchy parody. My daughter loved this song so much she wanted to hear it over and over again.

2. Walkin 'Round In Women's Underwear - One of the greatest parodies Bob has ever done. This is pure genious. I laugh everytime I hear it. Handcuffs and Madonna never went so well together in a tune.

3. I Am Santa Claus - Christmas goes metal with this great parody of the Black Sabbath classic 'Iron Man'

4. Manger 6 - A short and funny ditty from a guy sounding like Tom Bedett from Motel 6.

5. O Little Town Of Bethlehem - House of the Rising Sun parody

6. I Came Upon A Roadkill Deer - Parody of 'I came upon a Midnight Clear'. The song is kind of slow and by the time you get to the joke, you are ready to move on.

7. Teddy The Red-Nosed Senator - Great punch in the nose to that cursed Kennedy clan. I like the recording on this. The voice sounds like an old 1940's crooner coming through an ancient radio. "He's a drunken SOB!" hahahahaaha

8. Grahbe Yahbalz - A good joke, but subpar with the really good stuff on this album

9. A Letter To Santa - Marlon Brando parody of The Godfather

10. Jingle Hells Bells - The guy who sings this could make a career easily as Bon Scot in an AC/DC cover band.

11. The Kids - This is hilarious. It a take off of 'Kids say the darndest things' or something like that. We lost Vietnam.

12. The Magical Kingdom Of Claus - Santa sings ala Wizard of OZ.

Bob River's is a very talented guy. I own all his CD's and I listen to them over and over again. My husband complains that he's tired of listening to the same 5 Christmas CD's so I emailed Mr. Rivers and asked him if he was planning to release a new CD in the future. He responded (I was surprised he took the time to answer my email!) and said that he was hoping to release a new Christmas CD in a year! I can hardly wait! If you like comedy, I would recommend all 5 of his Xmas CD's.

My favorite track is (of course) "I Am Santa Claus", but I also love "Jingle Hell's Bells", which is a blending of "My Favorite Things" from "The Sound of Music", and "TNT" by AC/DC (SEE: "High Voltage" and "LIVE" albums). Contrary to popular belief, no part of the song "Hell's Bells" ("Back in Black") is used here. This is a truly *great* Christmas album, rated "PG".

This is a must have if:

you get depressed around the holidays
you are "bah, humbug" about the holidays
you have older kids (some songs are a little risque)
you are a black Sabbath fan - the I am Santa Claus song (to the tune of Iron Man) alone is worth the purchase
you just want a laugh
