5.0 out of 5 stars More than a Cover Band, September 22, 2002

If the Beach Boys were an active recording unit today, they would be recording songs like Papa Doo Run Run has written for this outing. This is strong, hooked filled, melodic pop music.I love every song on this CD! I find myself singing these songs in my head all day long, especially 'I'll meet you on the Sand'and 'Something on the order of Love'. Every Beach Boy fan should own this CD if you miss their music like I do. I bought every other Papa CD and almost passed on this one. Thank God I didn't. It's their best effort yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a GREAT CD!, September 6, 2001

Papa Doo Run Run's all original CD, Santa Cruz, is what the Beach Boys should be doing. It's up-beat, loaded with those smooth California harmonies, and current. No re-hashing the sixties here - this stuff is hot!

Papa Doo Run Run,have been around for a long time. They started in the 60's in Cupertino,California and were the house band at Disneyland for many years. Also, they were the backup band for Jan and Dean. This Outstanding CD "Santa Cruz" is full of songs about the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and other places in Santa Cruz where they still surf today. They have been playing a free concert at the Boardwalk for years in August. There is a Live DVD available of one of these concerts and the Band has just released a all Acoustic CD called the " Green Album " The vocals are out of this world. The Santa Cruz CD is out of print now, but there are used copies around.[...]. UPDATE: This CD is now available from Papa Doo Run Run on their web site.

5.0 out of 5 stars Santa Cruz - A Monster CD!, September 2, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Santa Cruz (Audio CD)
Finally after 35 years Papa Doo Run Run has put out an "all-original" CD. Appropriately, it's about Santa Cruz, Ca - the beach, boardwalk, and surfing - the band's old stomping ground. The opening cut "I'll Meet You On the Sand" has a very strong beat and is a great dance song. My favorite songs on the album are the very melodic "Insatiable", which has a Toto-like quality, and "California Sleepwalking" with thick rich harmonies, ala the Beach Boys. The album closes appropriately with "One Last Ride", a song about a surfer who has grown up now with a family of his own, who takes his kids to Santa Cruz to re-live some great memories and take that "one last ride".

"Santa Cruz" is everything I would expect from this award winning California band. Powerful rhythms, glistening harmony, slick chord changes, and hooky melodies - you're gonna love this CD.
