A cute and clever Christmas tale,
By
This review is from: Santa Duck (Hardcover)
Is it better to give or receive? A duck wearing a Santa suit sets out to find Santa to tell him his Christmas list, but instead is beset by other animals wanting to tell him their lists. When he finally meets Santa he tells him everyone else's lists but forgets to tell Santa his own list. He decides this is okay because helping Santa was the best gift...almost. My kindergartener heard this one at school and came home singing "Jingle Quack" and begging me to get this book.

I got this for my 2 1/2 year old daughter and she really enjoyed the book. The illustrations were funny and the jingle quack song is cute. I would definitely recommend.

I find this book funny for several reasons. First, the things that the animals ask for, i.e. the chicken asks for a helicopter, a hot air balloon, and a hang glider, and a blimp. Second, the duck's confusion about why the animals are sharing their Christmas lists with him. Third, the ending, which I won't mention here so as not to spoil it, just know it is quite amusing. The children I've shared this with quite enjoyed it. The illustrations are very appealing and suit the story quite well. The duck is surprisingly expressive for a duck. There is a nice message here about giving being better than getting..almost.

I bought this book for my daughter a few weeks ago. It is a fabulous book. Very funny and cute. I love the tunes the duck and the cow sing! We both love the book and have read it many times since we bought it.

I bought this book to share with my three granddaughters for Christmas, 2009. I'm eager for the holiday season to get here so we can read about Nicholas Duck's antics! They're gonna love the action, and I'm gonna love sharing the message that helping's better than getting any day. Great book. My little angels are 6 months, 2 and 5 years old. It's never too early to start teaching.

This is our favorite Christmas book so far. It is a fun and original story with a message. "It may be better to give than to receive, but if you ask the author (or Santa Duck), it is best to do both." My daughter and I enjoyed the wish lists of the animals:
- the cat wants a mouse and a canary and a trout and maybe a couple of nice, plump hamsters - the squirrel wants a case of almonds, a case of walnuts, 2 cases of peanuts, and a shovel You just can't help but wondering what the cat will do with the mice, and the squirrel with the shovel. (If you want to find out the wish lists of the chicken, turtle, rabbit, cow and goat, check out your local library or bookstore!) The story is full with silly little extras: I had no idea that Santa Duck wears bunny slippers, or even better, that Santa Claus wears Hippie glasses. This book makes you sing, dance and laugh. "Jingle Quack, Jingle Quack, Jingle All the Quack." If you are still looking for a great Christmas present, don't look any further! |
