5.0 out of 5 stars A children's story that only encourages good thinking
I love children's books - and one of my very favorite Christmas books as a child was "Mr. Willoby's Christmas Tree"...the illustrations captivated me and continue to be delightful, and more importantly the idea of 'reusing/recycling' was at the heart of the story - How wonderful to see the joy each recipient experienced upon receiving their 'gift' of the top of the tree...

This is an unbelievable new low for junk science and global alarmists who can't make up their minds whether the earth is heading for an ice age (their stance twenty years ago) or a meltdown (today). To use Santa to brainwash impressionable children about things that aren't true is reprehensible and these global warming alarmists should be ashamed of themeselves. If I...

5.0 out of 5 stars A children's story that only encourages good thinking, December 28, 2008

I love children's books - and one of my very favorite Christmas books as a child was "Mr. Willoby's Christmas Tree"...the illustrations captivated me and continue to be delightful, and more importantly the idea of 'reusing/recycling' was at the heart of the story - How wonderful to see the joy each recipient experienced upon receiving their 'gift' of the top of the tree! This is a message that is never too old, too left-wing, or too alarmist.
In that same vein, "Santa Goes Green" is also a story of sharing through environmental awareness. To those critics who cry that Santa, a symbol of Christmas, has now been dragged into a left wing agenda - i say that Santa is a symbol of all that is commercial about Christmas. Yes, he is a beloved symbol whose legends have evolved over time and his image as as a jolly, round Santa was cemented in the 1930's - thanks to the Coca Cola commercials - but that is not who Saint Nicholas really was. For those critics who claim to represent "Santa" at Christmas, do you know Santa really was a gaunt and ascetic saint who was a man of justice, with concern for the poor, a protector of children, and a savior of victims with unfortunate circumstances. The mall santas i have seen have never been portrayed this way.
If you are not concerned about the environment, fine - but don't use this book as your agenda to lash out at those who enjoy well written and beautifully illustrated books for children.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Can't Believe the Right Wing Extremists, December 27, 2008

Santa Goes Green

This time the Right is not Right.

I'm not an environmental activist, but I still believe we must all use common sense when it comes to conserving the environment for the future. I've purchased several of these books for my Grandchildren and they have all been thrilled with the story. It makes the point, at the chid's level, that everyone can have a positive impact on the environment. It is truly in the tradition of famous children's authors such as Dr. Suess by making reading fun, helping to sharpen reading skills, and at the same time making a point at the chid's level.

Those critics who believe the author is some environmental KOOK are simply uninformed about children's literature.

4.0 out of 5 stars Consider the source..., December 23, 2008

Wow - 4 reviews and that is enough to warrant a story by Fox News? If you don't like the book or don't agree with the premise, then don't buy it. I especially like the quote that the book was written by a global warming "alarmist" and that critics find this book's summary negative - "Santa is so inspired by his visit to the polar bear that he decides to re-use last year's wrapping paper, recycle toys and start using wind to generate power for his toy shop." Wow, that is incredibly polluting to young minds...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great For Kids, December 28, 2008
This review is from: Santa Goes Green (Hardcover)
Santa Goes Green
Great book for encouraging children to care about their earth and the people and animals that inhabit it Teachers have been using the 3 R's for years ..."Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. This author has used Christmas time and Santa as a gentle whimsical way of informing children that they can make a difference in this world. With all the problems in the world today, the author has approached the environmental awareness issue in a most positive way that teaches children how they can help. In my 20 years as an elementary teacher, I have always encouraged children to be aware of their environment, how it should be valued and sought out new ways to do so.
The author obviously cares about people and our earth and is teaching her children the same values. Perhaps our world would be in better shape if people took time to provide more positive approaches to the world's problems, as opposed to writing negative criticisms of those who do and supporting the production of violent movies and video games for our children.
I certainly hope that Amazon.com and Fox news will be more receptive to positive reviews of this book. Its message to children is simply to care about others not want everything material for themselves. Perhaps the people who have written the negative reviews should spend more of their time and money helping others rather than tearing down those who are doing so.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for kids., December 23, 2008

Perfect for a budding young mind that hasn't been ruined by adults with bad attitudes. (Notice the negative reviews that all have the same tone and were written on the same date. Hmm, I wonder if they have even touched a copy of this book.) Anyway, the story is about a boy that wants to help his polar bear friend who is losing his home because the ice is melting due to global warming. Instead of toys for Christmas he asks Santa to help make people more aware of global warming. The artistry, like the story is simple and rich, perfect for young children and maybe a few adults that might want to read to them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Children's Books...the Dean's List, December 3, 2008
This review is from: Santa Goes Green (Hardcover)
"...a delightful book with a serious (and important) message about the environment. Throughout the book the illustrations are clear, crisp and full of the beauty of the world. Artist Elisa Chavarri's work contains delightful details, beautiful color schemes and eye-popping page layouts such as when Santa and his reindeer first take flight in search of Finn and when Finn first posts his letter to Santa. An added dimension to the story is found toward the end of the book when Santa reorganized his toy shop to promote sustainability. Ideal for children age 4 to 8." -Children's Books...The Dean's List

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Santa Goes Green (Hardcover)
I bought this for my young half-siblings of 5, 3, and 1 years old. They all loved it! I also adopted a polar bear to go with the book. It is a very cute story and hopefully it will help children to grow up with the health of the planet in mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Idea, December 23, 2008
This review is from: Santa Goes Green (Hardcover)
What a great marketing idea anything green sells these days. Now, contrary to the negative reviews, if you don't like the perspective of the author don't buy it, simple enough. This book is a true preach to the choir book, because no redneck is going to buy it anyway. With that said I am a liberal elementary school teacher and I am going to buy a copy for all my classrooms and get all my fellow teachers a copy because we need to "brainwash" students into buying into our terrible liberal belief that global warming exists, just like the global scientific community alleges! In fact, I even teach science, not Scientology, Creationism or Foxnewsism.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, December 24, 2008
This review is from: Santa Goes Green (Hardcover)

I purchased this book and read it (unlike most reviewers) to all 3 of my children and they absolutely LOVED it. Very entertaining and the illustrations are beautiful. It's an instant classic and a real treasure.

I find it adorable that so many people have taken the time to trash a book they haven't even read. And even more so that they protest that this book is trying to add something "false or unproven" to the story of xmas. The irony is that with all the science and proof to back up global warming it is the ONLY thing about the xmas story which is true and provable. Adding global warming to the xmas fairytale brings it into the real world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for children, December 23, 2008
This review is from: Santa Goes Green (Hardcover)
People don't listen to the reviewers who say that the science is bogus. Some the greatest minds of our day have been doing research on the subject of climate change. James Hansen of NASA for instance. It's not junk science, but just science. This book presents a great story to introduce children to what climate change is and what we can do.
