Really nice Christmas movie,

What a wonderful story. Being an immigrant from The Netherlands, the story of 'Santa' and Pete (Sint and Piet) is all to familiar. It is great to see how they link Saint Nicolas to the North American Santa. A must see during the holiday season.

Hume Cronyn IS Saint Nicholas!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Santa & Pete (DVD)
Hume Cronyn appeared in many wonderful motion pictures but I will remember him always as Saint Nicholas (on his way to becoming Santa!) in "Santa and Pete". James Earl Jones and the entire cast made this a most memorable story. Congratulations to all involved in this truly wonderful rendition of the St. Nicholas story.

I first saw this movie about three years ago on network TV. I was lucky enought ot record it then but hated fast forwarding through the commercials again and again. I loved it and never thought of looking here to find it.
It is a wonderful story that give a neat little insight on where Santa got some of his stuff like flying reindeer. I highly recommend see this movie.

Should Be a Christmas Classic for Kids,
By Artist & Author (Near Mt. Baker, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Santa & Pete (DVD)
If you are looking for a very imaginative Christmas movie, this one is for you and your kids. Okay, I admit that it plays the facts quite loosely, but the story is so clever this movie should be a Christmas classic. It follows St. Nicholas from ancient times through all the nooks and turns that it might have taken to arrive at the modern traditions of Santa Clause. Parents will laugh at some of the imaginative ways this movie conceives for the origin of Santa traditions, and kids will love the story just because it is the story of Santa!

A Good Christmas Movie!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Santa & Pete (DVD)
I first saw the Christmas movie Santa ad Pete last December of 2004 and I liked it. I have heard that this was based on a Dutch book though I have never read the book. The movie is about Saint Nicholas (Santa Claus) and is African friend Pete who helps him give out gifts. This is a good Christmas movie and I'm glad it's on DVD. BTW: If you liked this movie Santa and Pete also check out the movie Off Season in which Hume Cronyn also plays Sana Claus.

Santa and Pete,
This review is from: Santa & Pete (DVD)
This movie is one that is so different. It brings together the true meaning of how Santa began and how he got his reindeer, suit of clothes, it adds religion to it and all walks of life and is very culture orginity...which is something lacking in our world today...my whole family loved it and watched it many many times over the holidays

This was a Made-for-TV movie, actors & plot as desctibed. It succeeds beautifully at showing that Santa doesn't take the Christ out of Christmas (he's our scapegoat.) But whomever wrote this is the movie's first time on DVD gets coal in their stocking. because I have owned a DVD put out by GOODTIMES DVD in 2003 & purchased on Amazon about two years ago.

This is a nice film for younger viewers and their parents to watch together as it purports to explain through the art of story-telling how the various traditions connected to Santa Claus came to be. It is significant as it is (to my knowledge) the first popular movie that describes Santa's origins in the Saint Nicholas story of eastern europe then Holland. And significant in describing the Dutch tradition of Santa's Moorish (African-American) assistant. So as another reviewer here points out, the Santa Claus story has a culturally-significant male 'sidekick' who is dark-skinned, which'll help non-white kids connect better to the Santa story.... which is significantly better than say, showing black elves at the North Pole as does all those Santa 'Clause' movies! Hume Cronyn and James Earl Jones are always a delight to watch; they're both great grandfather-material. There's no major special effects here to muck up the sweet story.

A Christmas Must,
By Jadders "Jadders" (Tampa bay area) - See all my reviews

What a wonderful Socking stuffer! I had seen this movie on tv a few years ago and really enjoyed the down to earth way they explained about the Christmas season making it an uniquely warm and down to earth story about Santa. I have bought alot this movie and have stuck them in stockings and given them as gifts. Great to watch with your kids. If you have not seen this you will be sad that you have missed it. This was a delightful little story of "Santa" and his helper; how he visited the new world for the first time and how he became who he is today. There are lots of ways the writers of this film could have went with it but in my opinion they picked the best by staying with the true values of Christmas.

Charming!,
By
This review is from: Santa & Pete (DVD)
This made-for-Tv movie is based on the myths of St. Nicholas and the Netherland's Zwarte Piet, or Black Pete. It does a charming job of explaining many of the origins of the myths associated with Santa Claus, how he came to use reindeer, how he aquired his traditional outfit, how stockings came to be used and many others.
This is a charming, multi-cultural tale that leaves you feeling all warm and fuzzy. |
