I haven't been terribly impressed with this year's selection of free Christmas songs, but this one is actually a winner. I don't think it necessarily has the traditional "christmas" sound, but it's a group that actually has talent, can carry a tune, produce nice harmonies, and has a sax player that kind of reminds me of the band Chicago.

I started checking out their other music and was pleasantly surprised. I'm a new fan.

Despite the odd title, this is a likable, upbeat song with a retro Motown/Stax sound and a lead singer reminiscent of Daryl Hall. Maybe not typical Christmas music but it is certainly worth a free download. If you get a chance also check out "Moneygrabber", another fine song by the group.

Fitz and The Tantrums are an American soul/indie pop band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 2008. Their debut studio album, Pickin' Up the Pieces, released in August 2010, has received critical acclaim and reached #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. They were heralded as a "band to watch" in an April 2011 profile in Rolling Stone. They have performed their hit single "MoneyGrabber" on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live, on TBS' Conan and on NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and have toured extensively in the United States and abroad. They are signed to Dangerbird Records.

"Santa Stole My Lady" was released on November 26, 2010. It isn't a traditional Christmas sound, but it's not as gimmicky as, say, "Santa Got Run Over by a Reindeer."

It's a catchy tune and a pleasant enough sound that will likely make some Christmas playlists.

First heard Fitz and the Tantrums on Live From Daryl's house. So very glad to have a holiday song from them!
