5.0 out of 5 stars my favorite xmas album
i'm a huge james brown fan and this album was bought specifically for me by a colleague at a work gift exchange years ago.

it's great in only that way that older rhino releases are ... complete, correct and well mixed. the true gem that's on here is "santa claus go straight to the ghetto." if that doesn't say christmas, in a very weird and exact james brown...

3.0 out of 5 stars Do you mind if I sing one time?
This was the first Christmas CD I ever bought. I found it in a store on sale for half price, on the day after I got my first CD player for Christmas. It feature the "best" songs from James Brown's three Christmas albums. The very best song is the first one, the classic "Santa Claus Go Straight To the Ghetto". it's great in only that way that older rhino releases are ... complete, correct and well mixed. the true gem that's on here is "santa claus go straight to the ghetto." if that doesn't say christmas, in a very weird and exact james brown way, i don't know what does.

it's worth it for the cover alone -- unfortunately it's not shown here, but james in full santa gear is something to behold (do a image google search on this disc and i'm sure you'll see it).

the only disc you should conisder instead of this is "Christmas Collection: 20th Century Masters [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED]," which is actually just a re-master of "james brown's funky christmas." the sound is a tad better, but you don't get the great image and this is a better bargain bin choice.

there's no better way to celebrate a white christmas.

Nothing else is quite as good as that, although there are some other good ones, like the bluesy "Santa Claus, Santa Claus", the nonsensical "Go Power at Christmas Time", the heartfelt "Let's Make Christmas Mean Something This Year" and the funky "T*t For Tat". There are also a number of songs that aren't particularly good. JB doesn't fare too well with Christmas standards, like "The Christmas Song", "Please Come Home For Christmas" and "Merry Christmas Baby". Still, if you are a fan of Soul Brother Number One, you will probably enjoy this CD.
