5.0 out of 5 stars Koontz goes Christmas!

3.0 out of 5 stars Well-told, but exasperatingly long bedtime story
I must say, the illustrations of "Santa's Twin" are gorgeous, pure eye candy, and that's what teased the money from my pocket. And Koontz as author? It must have some scary, wicked moments in it as well! And he has quite a way with words, the rhyme rollicks along.

But except for adults who are buying this book primarily for themselves--or for their coffee...

Fully of wit and humor people of all ages will enjoy, Dean Koontz's "Santa's Twin", featuring superb illustrations by Phil Parks, is a must-have for holiday fans. Enjoyable rhyme, hidden snowmen in every picture, and little bits of humor drawn into the pictures themselves will delight Koontz fans and casual readers. "Santa's Twin" may not ever become a holiday classic, but it's certainly a holiday tradition around my house!

5.0 out of 5 stars Return to my youth, May 22, 2001

This review is from: Santa's Twin (Hardcover)
When I was a little boy I loved nothing more than curling up in my bed at night when the latest omnibus of children's horror stories. Dean Koontz has taken his well honed craft and added his touch to this genre, with remarkable results. How I wish this book would have been around when I was a child, I probably would have read it about 10 times by now. I read it myself first to ensure it was suitable for my children and found that I couldn't put it down. When I eventually got round to reading it to the kids it became a war of wills, with them trying to stay awake as long as possible each night trying to intake as much of the story as possible before tiredness took them and they finally crossed over into dreamworld. The fact that as soon as I had finished reading this book, the children asked for me to read it to them again is testament to just how fantastic this book is. For some great family entertainment on a cold winters night then it doesn't come much better than this. I should also state that the illustrations are also remarkable and enhance the enjoyment of the experience. A must for every child's bookshelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the funniest Christmas books for all ages!, December 2, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Santa's Twin (Hardcover)
This is one of the funniest children's books I have ever read. My seven year old niece introduced it to me last Christmas. Not only was the story hillarious and rivoting, and the rhyming perfect, but the "find a snowman in every picture" theme kept us enthralled long after the story had been read. The pictures were also quite beautiful, I might add - a tribute to the heights of quality children's books have reached in the past few years. This year I bought this book for all of my other nieces and nephews - as well as a copy for myself!

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny Christmas Tradition!, February 19, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Santa's Twin (Hardcover)
This is an awesome Christmas book for late at night during the holiday season. I read this to my 5 year old sister and she loved it! Not only is it a great story but there is the added fun of trying to find the "hidden snowmen" on every page. Not many people know this but this is a sort of "continiunce" of Dean's earlier adult horror book "Mr. Murder". Santa's Twin features the family from that book. The storyline of Twin came from a story that was told to the kids in Mr. Murder. Overall, great Christmas book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Santa's Twin is hilarious, May 31, 2000

A naughty, inventive & heartwarming epic poem aboutCharlotte & Emily who set out to save Santa from his mischievoustwin - Bob Claus - who has stolen his brother's sleigh, is plotting to make Donner, Blitzen & the rest into reindeer soup & has stuffed Santa's toy bags with mud pies, cat poop & broccoli, yum! Perhaps because I'm adult I roared with laughter while reading this one to the youngsters. I don't know if it damaged them - they sure went through the gamut of emotions & we ended up noses to the pages looking for those special clues. What a gift for folks with a sense of humor! ...

4.0 out of 5 stars This is such a great book!, December 13, 2000
This review is from: Santa's Twin (Hardcover)
While this book may not be for everyone, it is very funny. It is written in a style similar to Dr. Suess with beautiful illustrations and a funny story. The kids that I read this with especially like the "hidden snowman" on every page. This is a great addition to your Christmas collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun for Ages 8 and Up, December 29, 2004
This review is from: Santa's Twin (Audio Cassette)
This book is a modern Christmas classic. Santa has been mugged, tied up and stuffed under the basement stairs by his twin brother, Bob. At first, Bob comes across as malevolent and psychotic, intent on destroying his brother's reputation as well as wrecking everyone's Christmas. But thanks to the efforts of two brave sisters, we find out that Bob is merely jealous of his brother and has forgotten some basic behavioral standards. The story is told entirely in rhyme. Indeed, it is Koontz's clever rhymes that will keep you in stitches-he even finds not one, but two rhymes for halitosis!

Due to the violent beginning, I wouldn't recommend this story for kids under 8, and the opening violent scene makes the story certainly unsuitable for youngsters who still believe in Santa Claus. But those who are not emotionally distraught by the image of Santa Claus as the victim of a violent crime will find the story charming. After the opening scene, the story itself is not that violent, and Bob eventually learns a new moral to take to heart and direct his future behavior.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightfully Different Xmas Tale, December 20, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Santa's Twin (Hardcover)
Dean Koontz is my favorite writer, so despite my daughter only being 2, I had to get this for her. It has gorgeous illustrations and rhyming text. Santa's twin brother decides to tie Santa up and ruin Xmas. He's tired of being outshined by his brother, Santa and decides to make everyone hate him instead. He lands in a house and leaves horrible presents and ruins their house but his plans are foiled by the two sisters who live there. They overhear what he's done and decide they are the only ones who can save Santa. They rescue Santa and scold his evil twin. Why what would your mother think, they ask him and he realizes the err of his ways. This book is fun reading with wacky descriptions and imaginable ryhmes. The last page asks you if you noticed all the snowmen hiding on each page. They watch over us and report back to Santa. How else would Santa know who's been naughty or nice. My sister and mother in law had a blast trying to find the snowmen. This is a wonderful Xmas tale thet kids will delight in. It isn't scary at all, it's more comical.

FINALLY A CHRISTMAS STORY THAT OLDER CHILDREN CAN ENJOY. I READ THIS BOOK TO MY CHILDREN AGES 8 & 11 LAST CHRISTMAS. BOTH OF THEM ALONG WITH MY HUSBAND AND MYSELF REALLY ENJOYED THE STORY ALONG WITH THE ILLUSTRATIONS. I HAVE READ ALL BUT THE LAST 3 BOOKS THAT DEAN KOONTZ HAS PUT OUT. AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED HE IS THE BEST AUTHOR THAT I HAVE READ IN YEARS. HOPEFULLY HE WILL WRITE ANOTHER BOOK THAT THE WHOLE FAMILY CAN ENJOY AGAIN.

5.0 out of 5 stars Koontz for Kids, and Adults Will Love it Too!, January 9, 2004

This review is from: Santa's Twin (Hardcover)
Santa has been tied up, stuffed into a sack and thrown into the basement of his house in Santa's Village, North Pole. His evil jealous twin brother has control of his sleigh and reindeer, is vandalising houses and switching toys for toad snot and other disgusting things, so that kids will hate his brother and live in fear each Christmas for centuries to come. It is up to two good girls named Charlotte and Emily to stop the evil one, rescue Santa and save Christmas

This sensational rhyming, illustrated Christmas tale also has the added bonus of hidden snowmen on each page, Where's Wally? (Waldo, America) style. Obviously kids will enjoy this sensational thriller but so will adults. Also read Garry Larson's There's a Hair in My Dirt which is another children's classic written by an author who normally writes for adults.
