Book Description

November 1, 2009
Uncensored and provocative shots of models and artists

A decade after his sizzling debut A Private View, Sante D Orazio returns with a second volume of photo-diary-scrapbook, covering 1997 to 2008. Uncensored and provocative, D Orazio s shots are mounted in collage-style entries framed with candid, handwritten observations. All-night parties and day-long photo sessions provide the light and shade of D Orazio s jetset lifestyle- celebrities, models, musicians, actors and artists all feature, in various states of dress and undress. Included here are Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Diane Kruger, Tricia Helfer, Stephanie Seymour, Liz Hurley, Jay-Z, Mickey Rourke, Angelina Jolie, Christina Aguilera, Pam Anderson, Keith Richards, Axl Rose, Damien Hirst, Julian Schnabel and many more. Informal images contrast with posed shots, color with black and white, and outtakes are shown along published photos from the likes of Playboy and Interview. With a keen eye, this New York-based photographer creates a dynamic tableau of moods and styles. Access to this demi-monde is rare; capturing its essence in words and pictures, rarer still. Sante D Orazio succeeds on both counts.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a good one, March 29, 2010

This review is from: Sante D'Orazio: Barely Private (Paperback)
I bought this book thinking that was going to ad something, that was going to show me something about the fashion world on the 90s (I think the book was done on the nineties).
But 10% of the book have some good photography.
The rest is just pictures with bad lighting, and pictures about the author posing with naked models. I'm sure the photographer loves Himself.
The layout is good.

2.0 out of 5 stars A review, January 30, 2010
This review is from: Sante D'Orazio: Barely Private (Paperback)
I was happy upon seeing that Sante D'Orazio had come out with a second book of his work. The work is very much in the vein of a Private View, actually it is exactly in the same vein, and that is it's weakness. Sante D'Orazio's presentation and styling is the same as a work over a decade old- things written so small in the margins you can just make it out, lists of parties he went to and who was there, etc. It feels like there has been no growth, it feels like it is in exactly the same place as the previous book- Really, it feels like these are just outtakes from the first book. I love his work but I guess in a nostalgic sense. I returned the book, I felt I truly already had it. I give it 2 stars because, yes his work is beautiful but it is rehashed here. Best work here was the lovely work with Brooke Shields. She looks so much better here than a decade back, unfortunately Sante D'Orazio does not fair as well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, March 4, 2011

This review is from: Sante D'Orazio: Barely Private (Paperback)
The book is okay. Not great, not horrible. It has images of stars & models in different situations, but way more images of the photographer/author with stars than I thought. Definitely not representative of what the half dozen or so images that we're allowed to see in the sample pages/images.

I'm not sure if it is worth the $25 I paid for it, but it is worth it for at least $15. Just my thoughts. :)
