Too expensive for what you get,
By Budster (Oregon & New Mexico) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Santa Fe Taos Hiking Guide (Paperback)
I really wanted to like this book. It's nicely done with lots of color. But $22.50 is just too much, considering that most of the hikes near Santa Fe are also in "Best Easy Day Hikes Santa Fe, 2nd" for $9.95. In addition, although not the author's fault, a great many of the hikes are out-and-backs, not loops, so you have to retrace your steps. In addition, they include some pretty difficult terrain: A lot of us don't have 6-10 hours, or else the stamina, to spend on a near-vertical, one-way hike. Finally, most of these are simply listed on the Carson and Santa Fe Natl. Forest maps...I didn't learn of many "new" hikes near Taos or Santa Fe that I didn't already know.
