5.0 out of 5 stars Not too bad
This is a good book on ebbo for Orisha, offerings, and workings calling upon Orisha. The title is slightly misleading as "spells" are only a small part of the book, which I imagine the author included to make the book more appealing on the market. A lot of people will tell you that Wippler's books are full of nonsense, but there is always some truth to be found. Buy this...

1.0 out of 5 stars Skip this book.
This book really has nothing to do with what Santeria is really about. Mostly it is English translations of spells written in Spanish booklets available in Botanicas. If you want to learn about Santeria, skip this book.

A lot of people will tell you that Wippler's books are full of nonsense, but there is always some truth to be found. Buy this book if you want some more information on Orisha, and ebbo offered to them. Donot buy this book if you are looking for a run of the mill spellbook found on most bookstore shelves.

5.0 out of 5 stars an excellent xsource of information about Santeria, April 4, 1998

This review is from: Rituals and Spells of Santeria (Paperback)
This is a good start for beginners. This book is a good start for beginners.Gonzalez- Wippler was the first author to present Santeria to an English-speaking audience, making fascinating correlations with the archetypes of the collective unconscious. Often controversial, she is still the most popular writer on Santeria and her books are excellent sources of information on the subject. Most of the criticism aimed at her books stem from the fact that when she began to write there was little info on Santeria and the priests of the religion misled her and other researchers on the subject. Now it is easy to write about it, but she was the first and that is something we should be thnakful for.

This review is from: Rituals and Spells of Santeria (Paperback)
Nice small book , easy to read. But not much in there in regard to actual rituals. Lots of the usual info on the Loa's that is in almost any books on the subject. A brief tid bits on doing the usual spells; love, revenge, job... Invocations and much of the herb info is not in english. Some of the Herb items are not to be found in many city areasw. Most folks doing any magical workings will prefer to use their everyday language.

There are better books out there. Keep looking.
