I stumpled across this marvelous composer's work on the NPR program Sunday Baroque. I was so delighted to hear this blend of Baroque and Latin American folk music that I went in search of Murcia's work to add it to my collection. I recognized jarocho themes, from the State of Veracruz, Mexico that spoke to my heart. I have a varied and eclectic collection of music on DVD, cassette and LP and am always ready to add special pieces. I highly recommend Santiago de Murcia's Codex to those looking for a Latin American influence in European Baroque music.

I have Paul O'Dette's amazing recording of Santiago de Murcia, titled Jacaras!, and wanted more. This isn't terrible, but it's not half as good as O'Dette.
