5.0 out of 5 stars Great Flat Screen Mount!, July 10, 2006
By
LT (Pasadena, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sanus Systems VMAA26S Universal 30"-50" Flat Panel Mounts with Articulating Arm (Silver) (Electronics)
I searched for quite a while for a wall mount for my 42" flat screen. I looked at Omnimount's single and double cantilever mounts in addition to this Sanus, but eventually decided on the Sanus due to lower cost and issues about Omnimount's instruction clarity that were raised in other reviews written here.

I had some hesitation about trusting myself with this install, but Sanus' instructions really make the process quite simple. The hardest part of the install was just finding the studs in the wall. The instructions were clear, well written and included a page where all screws/bolts were represented in real-life size, which made identifying them extremely easy. Check out the Sanus website - it contains pdf links for their assembly instructions and you'll see what I mean. The install can be done by one person except for the step in which you have to lift the TV onto the wall to attach the arm to the wall plate.

The mount itself seems well made, and is quite heavy. Everything fits as it should, there was no forcing parts or screws/bolts to go together... the manufacturing tolerances must be pretty tight. Also, Sanus included eight sets of different sized mounting screws - increases the possibility of finding a match for your tv. I'd highly recommend this mount for anyone looking for a relatively easy install of a full-motion wall mount.

Notes:

(1) The TV moves away from the wall and swings side to side just by grabbing it and moving it around. However, if you want to tilt the screen, there are two hand turned knobs behind the tv that first have to be loosened, tv tilted to your preference, then knobs retightened. It can be done by one person but easier if you have another set of hands. Something to consider if you plan on tilting and untilting the TV often.

(2) The mount has two metal bars that run horizontally across the back of the TV. One of the bars may cross directly over where your connections go (for me, it blocked the HDMI and component video connectors) so pay attention to that - you will have to connect the wires before installing the bar to the monitor brackets. If you wait until after the bar is mounted, there's no way you can connect the cables.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic mount, August 5, 2006

This mount was extremely simple to set up and is extremely simple to use. I thought it might take 3 people to mount it but it just took 2 and that's just because of the sheer weight of the tv and mount. You can feel pretty confident that once it's on the wall, it's not coming off. It's also very easy to rotate and so forth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Agree with JT BUT>>>>>>, December 3, 2007
This review is from: Sanus Systems VMAA26S Universal 30"-50" Flat Panel Mounts with Articulating Arm (Silver) (Electronics)
JT's comments as well as many who rate this item highly I must say I agree.

I DID run into several installation problems that related to a tool missing from the box: A Hex wrench. The one they included was not needed, but for the pivots on the swing arms. The one NEEDED, was not included and made the work a bit confusing. As well, as the directions made ZERO mention of using that hex wrench. Ok here is the story.

There are four short, and two long [ 4" ] vice bars on the back...You are supposed to thread a screw into the four short ones, then loosen them then tighten them..BUT they don't tell you this until the end. The wrench I needed to do such wasn't included. Had devil of a time finding the correct size hex. And I have almost every one on hand....Taped the one I used to the back of the unit for later use...that bad.

If you don't loosen these vices first, you'll have a tough time puting the screws through them...

If no hex, you cannot loosen and tighten them to the cross-bars correctly.

LASTLY, the wires on the back will take some doing. I have a Hole in the wall via which all cords travel. I recommend NOT using too many wires, as when I move the TV out to a 90degree angle for cooking in the Kitchen, the cords are a bit of a problem. Tried some cleaver things like zipties, and weights etc. BUT now probably going to use a thin-wire technique and do away with many wires.

VERY Sturdy unit, HIGHLY qualified for my 42"54 Samsung TV that weighs about 50# on own. Swivel had me nervouse with their short wall screws, so opted for 4" models of high grade steel

DON'T Over torque...When It gets tight, give it another 1/4 turn.

TAKES TWO people and get a good stud finder, and a good yet, small level.

Mine is a bit off by a 1/4 inch on right side [correctable when I'm in the mood ] and not noticable, only to me, I guess....

ALSO, you may need to add rubber bumpers like for furniture on back of TV to prevent wall bumping...
