Got a emerson one from walmart sd a gift. Then got another one the next year at k mart because i got tired of the squealing (yes I clean my vcrs)but it was the same exact thing except now said sanyo. who knew they were bought out? It ate a tape the first time I put one in and I haf a feeling it would. Had to take it back. Makes horrible squealing noise when rewinding. Hard to set timer, very old looking blue menu screen though it only goes back to 2002. When you tape something and the tape runs it rewinds itself then turns off and comes back on the dvd setting so you have to take the tape out and put it back in to be able to press the vcr button and switch back.

My mom purchased this DVD/VCR for my daughter as a gift a couple of months before giving it to her. My daughter was only able to use the DVD player a couple of times. Now, no matter what DVD you put in it, no mattter how well you clean it or even if it's new, the player will not play it. It states that it cannot read it. My mom couldn't find the receipt and I threw away the box, so we kept it.
The VCR does work, but I have also experienced the sqeaking mentioned in another review.

I needed an inexpensive replacement for my broken DVD player. I've had this unit for almost 2 years. Always works well and is easy to use with the progressive scan feature. Looks good on my lcd tv.

I asked for and received one as a Christmas gift, but I wish I had asked for something else. I trusted the Sanyo name, having had a good experience with some other Sanyo products. Don't be fooled by the vendor, the DVW was manufactured especially for Wal-Mart. Unfortunately, this was one of those products where a known brand cut corners to keep prices down. I'll never buy Wal-Mart electronics again no matter what the brand.
I had the same troubles as these other reviewers. After about three months (just past the 90-day warranty) the DVD side stopped working and displays an error message when you insert a disc. The VCR side is okay, but very noisy. If you have a tape in the machine it has a loud grinding sound whether the tape is playing or not. If you are playing a tape the mechanism is very loud the whole time. I've had to turn up the volume on my TV to be able to hear over it. If the tape is stopped, the grinding sound will go away after a minute or two, but it's so maddening that I always end up just ejecting it.

Not Bad For the Price,

I got this VCR last Christmas after my 15 year old VCR began to only record and play in black and white for some reason and cleaning didn't fix it. I thought it would be nice to have a VCR/DVD combo hooked up to the TV and the price for one was better than just a VCR. My parents found this for me. I haven't noticed the squealing while playing, but it is VERY noisy when rewinding. I have had good luck with everything I've tried in the DVD player thus far. I haven't really tried using the program timer to record shows until last night and found that it didn't work. Turns out it has a really weird function where you have to hit the DVD Subtitle button to put it into timer set mode. This function seems to work okay although the fact that it defaults to the DVD mode until you hit the subtitle button again when you turn it back on it a little strange. The video quality with this VCR hasn't dazzled me, but it is okay for most of what I tape and record. Apparently I've had better luck than others and I would recommend it to someone looking to save and not have that much quality or the best ease of use.

Not Worth It,
This review is from: Sanyo DVW-7200 DVD/VCR Combo, DVW-7200 (Electronics)
I was looking for a replacement DVD/VCR combo and thought that this would be worth a try, considering the price. The DVD portion would play the audio from a DVD, but there was no video and I was not even able to access the DVD menu. I ran a cleaning disk through it twice, but it did not make a difference. The VCR portion did usually work, however, it seemed a bit temperamental. I ended up buying a new replacement to replace this one.

I have had this product for a cupple years and i haave not had 1 single problem with the dvd or tape player or even aa button. I do not understand why the 6 people on here have given the player a bad review. not one thing has gone wrong with mine. I rate it 5 star and would buy another. I think the price was good also it was not to expencive and it works great and even for years. By the way and still working flawless.

We still have a lot of VHS tapes and are getting more DVDs and this product allows us to play either. A better deal in the long run would be to get one that can make a 'back-up' personal-use copy of a VHS onto a DVD of those tapes you have made of the kids...
