5.0 out of 5 stars This is how to do electric bikes: Electric ASSIST

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice motor, very poor wheel and tire choice.
The 26 X 1/3/8 tires that come on the bike are an oddball size (32-590), hard to find with limited selection available.

They have a Max pressure rating of 55lbs, and aren't suitable for riders over 200Lbs.

To bad they couldn't have put conventional 26" mountain bike wheels and tires on the bike to start with.

Re-building the wheels will...

Google this bike (KW= Sanyo Electric Bike) for some very accurate and informative reviews of the product.

An electric engine generates maximum torque at 1RPM. As such, Electric-powered vehicles are subject to sudden starts in direct-drive configurations. This is not that big a deal in large 4-wheeled vehicles like Golf Carts or Prius's. On Bike and Motorcycles though, it can be pretty unpleasant...but not this bike.

Because it is electrically assisted, not electric-only powered, it is a pleasure to ride. I got it for my wife who suffers degenerative rheumatoid arthritis but loves bikes and exercises as the only way to sustainably improve the her life in light of the pathology.

Because it is so effortless for her to ride in the 10--15mph range, I think I am the main exercise beneficiary, huffing and puffing close-behind on my classically Flintstones-era (pre-electric) bike.

Most of the use so far has been my teenaged sons (amateur motocross racers who can wreck ANYTHING with wheels in minutes) and the Sanyo has held up flawlessly to endless sessions of max-speed runs.

Initial impression is that this seems to be a properly executed approach to regenerative-braking, electric power. Nobody's ever gotten the thing below 3 of 5 power-level lights simply because we run out of time for riding long before the battery runs out of juice.

All in all, of the 20-or-so powered 2-wheelers in our crazy household, this thing is by far the most-demanded ride of the family. Now, if they only build one without accomodating a skirt with the step-through design, I'd likely own one for every one in the family.

Do the research, basically this is a uniformly beloved bicycle, one that doesn't whack my wife's rheumatoid (low impact) so it's really quite a discovery.

Enjoy! --DC

5.0 out of 5 stars Best e-bike ever!!!, April 9, 2010

I think this is absolutely the best e-bike available in the market. It's like riding a regular bike and the loop charging technology which charges the battery while riding is state-of-the-art. If you are looking for an e-bike, you would like to buy the one with best quality lithium-ion battery which SANYO is well known for. Plus, it's fun, cool and affordable.

You might want to try a test ride at Best Buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this bike., August 19, 2011
This review is from: Sanyo Eneloop Electric Bicycle Bike CY-SPA600NA (Misc.)
I've owned my Eneloop for about 6 months now. It's incredibly fun and makes it so easy to bicycle anywhere. I've taken it up for ~15 mile rides without discharging the battery and has become my primary form of transportation and quickly replaced my car for those "little trips" around town to run errands (hint: buy saddle bags that accommodate grocery bags). The rack is extremely sturdy and the frame appears to be as well -- I've hauled around my ~65 lb dog with a bicycle trailer. Note: you aren't going to win any racing trips with this thing, but that's not what it's for. It's a useful urban transport.

By the way, if you are concerned about longevity if you have a longer commute, you can order another battery from Sanyo, it's about 400 bucks.

Simple and elegant. A good, quality product. I am 6'2" and will order the 28" wheel
version and give this one to my niece. I am back to riding every day again, even with the hills.(age 70)

Re-building the wheels will be an expensive proposition.

A big downside to an otherwise clever bike design.

The motor assist is wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy with small planet's service and bike, December 9, 2011
This review is from: Sanyo Eneloop Electric Bicycle Bike CY-SPA600NA (Misc.)
The Sanyo bike came in a big box...I called Tom at small planet e vehicles ,he explained how to tighten handle bars and screw in pedals ...it was simple ....I had a couple of other questions which he answers quickly by email or by phone ...

The bike should be taken to a local shop to get adjusted with in a week to make sure all
Adjustments are correct (as with any good bike....which this is)

The guy at bike shop said Sanyo used pretty good components , the .tires should be upgraded when the tread starts showing wear........,however...... it's an amazing e -system!
