Wide-tastic
A great add-on for the Xacti HD1, but two minor problems I've found so far. 1. I can't use a circular polarizing filter with the wide angle lens as it cuts off the corners of a picture and; 2. flash photography won't work as the pop-up flash becomes obscured by the barrel of the add-on lens.

Great for video but cannot be used for stills w/ flash
If you purchase this wide angle lens adapter for the Xacti HD1A, you will not be able to take still photos using the built in flash. The adapter blocks the flash and causes black shadows in the bottom half of your photos. It does work well for video. The Sanyo Xacti HD1A camera itself is a disappointment.

Wide angle a must,

I found the wide angle lens to be a must in many situations. Was very helpful on vacation taking shots of buildings. Indoor the camera itelf is not good, so not as helpful for indoor photography, because as stated before you cannot use the flash when lens in installed.
My problem is that the lens does not thread on. It is held on the front of the camera with a rubber ring. Works great, but when I took the lens off one time on vacation it fell off without me realizing until too late. I still can hold it in front of camera, but am buying a new one to get the rubber ring. PS...without the rubber ring I hold it in front of my pocket digital camera lens to get nice wide angle shots...very usefull.

I had a tough time tracking one of these down. It was a pleasant surprise to find out that the lens separates into two parts, with the smaller one being a macro lens. Macro as in .5" or so away from the subject. While I had no immediate use for this feature, I'm sure it can open up a creative avenue for someone.
This lens is designed for the Xacti videocams, with the same design philosophy as the cams themselves: Fast and easy to set up and start shooting with zero wait time. I use mine for interior real estate related videos, and it's great. If you need to get more of the scene into your frame, then get this accessory for your Xacti. You won't be disappointed. |
