Product Description

The new eneloop is even rechargeable up to 1800 times. Improved self-dischcharge. Even though the self discharge of the old eneloop was already very impressive, you can store the new eneloop for 5 years and still it will retain 70% of its capacity. You need a battery, which is reliable even when having cold temperatures? Before eneloop was suitable for temperatures as low as -10°C - now even until -20°C. The new eneloop is even more environment-friendly as it is pre-charged with solar energy in Japan

They've saved us a ton of money and kept a lot of batteries out of the landfill.

There are some heated accusations asserting that those new (1500 cycles) eneloop cells sold by Amazon partners are counterfeit products. However, notice that none of the accusers actually bothered to test the batteries they received, to verify whether those are indeed fake eneloop cells. They simply recited (mis)information circulating on the Internet as 'proof'.

I ordered the new Sanyo Eneloop 8 Pack AA NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries and they arrived in two 4-packs. The packages are shiny and looked different from the blue/green version found on other product pages (such as the SANYO NEW 1500 eneloop 8 Pack AA). With so much talk about counterfeit eneloop going around on the Internet, I was initially suspicious about the authenticity of those cells. However, after carefully examining and testing them, I am convinced that those are 100% genuine eneloop cells.

Here are my test results, using the old La Crosse BC-9009 AlphaPower Battery Charger:
- Right out of the package, their average remaining charge is 1568mAh, or nearly 80% of the rated capacity of 2000mAh. The spread is also very small, from 1558 to 1577mAh. This proves that they are indeed low-self-discharge type.

i just received my 16-pack of eneloops and can confirm they are the HR-3UTGA models, which are the 1500 cycle, 1900mah min batteries. in case you were wondering if these have been yanked out of other packages or something, they come in 4 separate official 4-batter blister packs. work as expected. these are the only rechargeables you should buy. even the apple batteries are supposedly rebranded eneloops.

i was really looking forward to getting the new dark/light blue toned eneloops, and the only thing that disappointed me about the order was that they are all white. it's a really minor gripe, but the image was a bit misleading and the colors would have made it easier to separate my older eneloops from the new ones. thankfully, the order comes with 2 battery holders. i blame my OCD for letting me get bothered by the color of a battery that nobody even sees. right now, the only way to get the blue-toned eneloops (other than on ebay and whatnot) is through the costco pack.

The good:

1) Made in Japan.
2) Pre-charged & ready to use.
3) Rechargeable 1500X (X = times / cycles). I'm happy with just 500X.

The not so good:

1) 2000 mAh. That's not enough juice to provide stamina for power hungry devices.

Background:

For over 4yrs now, I've been using the 'made in Japan', Low Self Discharge (LSD) AA & AAA rechargeable batteries from Sanyo called Eneloop & Eneloop 1500. I use them with all the remote controls & electronic devices / gadgets that I have. I have over a dozen pairs of the Sanyo Eneloop batteries & I like to keep them organized. I have them all marked / labeled in pairs so that I don't mix the batteries when I'm charging them. The plain white color of the Sanyo Eneloop is a plus point here.

For remote controls, the Eneloops are perfect. A single charge c'd stay for more than a year. No complaints. It's when I use the Eneloops with the Canon PowerShot A590IS Canon PowerShot A590IS 8MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom that I wish that these batteries had a lil' more juice in them. I c'd barely touch an average of 200 shots with a single charge. That's when I gave the Sanyo Eneloop XX a try & I'm impressed with it. The milliampere-hour (mAh), a measurement of the electric charge transferred by a steady current of one Ampere for one hour (check Google for more detailed explanation), in the new Sanyo Eneloop XX has been upped to 2500 mAh. This increase of 500 mAh really shows an improvement in my compact camera's performance. I've already taken over 400 shots with the first charge & I'm still counting. Even the refresh time between shots have reduced a bit.

I received my 16 Sanyo Eneloop batteries today in 4 4-packs, with 2 8-cell battery holders included as advertised. What I didn't expect is that these are the new model of Eneloops rated at 1500 recharge cycles instead of the previous 1000. The two free battery holders are mentioned in the "Technical Details" section of the webpage but nothing is said about the batteries being the new improved (and more expensive) version. The picture on the webpage shows the older type as well so when I ordered I was convinced I was ordering the older type. All my experience with Eneloops is with the 1000-cycle type. They are long-lasting and trouble free. They last really long in devices right out of their packaging without being charged. I deliberately buy the 1000-cycle type because they are lower priced than the newer version and because they are already super batteries so why pay a premium for new and improved? For all I know some other aspect of their performance might be compromised in boosting them to 1500-cycle so why take chances?

I'm very happy to have the new ones though. If price were no object I would have ordered 1500-cycle, truth be told. This isn't the first time I've gotten more than expected from Thomas Distributing "and Fulfilled by Amazon." A few months ago I ordered from Thomas, along with Eneloops (these did turn out to be the 1000-cyle type), a Maha Powerex MH-C9000 WizardOne battery charger. The charger came with a dedicated soft case with Powerex logo and in addition had by far the lowest price at Amazon for that charger on that day. These buying experiences leave me with a good feeling because it seems I can have the best batteries and the best charger while paying the lowest price and in both cases receive more than expected.
