good...not the same...but that happens,

This review is from: Saosin (CD + DVD) (Audio CD)
i bought the translating the name ep back in the summer of 2004 when it first came out...a friend that owns a small record label in ma had heard it and told me it was AMAZING...i went to newbury comics, bought it and was instantly hooked...I loved how Saosin blended many different styles of metal with VERY high pitched vocals...the drumming was out of this world but that's what you get when it's a former member or drum tech? of the band slayer, anyways anthony green has one of the most unique voices in music today...seriously stop and think about how much recycled s*#t is being produced and played on radio, etc. and you'll appreciate how awesome it really is...i too, like some of the other poster's on this think the album is way over produced and isn't nearly what it could have been...something else that bothered me too is that Saosin is not a good live band vocally (they played mainly TTN songs and only added bury your head, follow and feel and come close)...musically they are awesome live but vocally they were just terrible...but that's what you get for this genre of music when you go see bands like this live...while they may sound amazing on an album, it is insane to think that the singers will hit those notes night after night on a 2-3 month tour, it just doesn't happen unless you get in-ear monitors so that the board engineer can turn up your vocals and you don't strain your voice (ant green does it with circa and his vocals SOAR Live)
i guess my big let down was the fact that they lost anthony green and took 2 years to find his replacement and get stuff together and this is what came of that entire process, which in my opinion hasn't lived up to my expectations (i think part of it has to do with seeing them live too), overall it is a good album BUT only good...i give them credit for finally getting a full-length out there after losing their singer and what not... i couldn't agree more with the poster that asks "what happened to bury your head?" WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING WHEN THEY RECORDED THIS IN THE STUDIO?!?!? I mean the new version is terrible. I'd rather they not even release it than ruin it like they did. It's slower, softer and lacks energy. The Saosin EP version is way better. Good tracks = sleepers (wish they didn't remove the double bass, it kills it), i never wanted to (formerly new angel), follow and feel, come close and collapse

An incredible full length release, a triumph!,

First off, I must agree with some of these other reviewers who are making excellent points; Yes the album is definitely over produced but that is what you get when you've got Howard Benson and Chris Lord-Alge helming the board. They tend to do that. Plus, if you watch the making of DVD, it didn't seem like getting Benson to produce it was their first choice anyway. Also, Cove does an excellent job of carrying on Anthony Green's legacy, but like someone else said, doesn't have quite the angry side he did, but the music stays passionate. I still hold true that Saosin AND Circa Survive (or maybe Cove and Anthony) are some of the most passionate, poetic, and solid song writiers in a long time and this record is damn dripping with excellence. The entire composition of every song is layered, harmonic in so many ways, and chaotic in the good way. I'm not going to break down every little detail, but I'm telling anyone out there considering this CD that it grabs a hold of you from the beginging, no need to let it "grow on you". There just isn't much you can say about these guys that hasn't already been said! An incredible release and I already know I'm going to wear this CD out in no time. The only complaint that I have is that they put "Bury Your Head" on here, which is an incredible song, but I think everyone has heard it by now. Should have had something else new on there. All in all, I can't stop listening to this CD. Beautiful but that is what I expected!

Great Melodies, Mediocre Lyrics,
By
This review is from: Saosin (CD + DVD) (Audio CD)
The melodies are astounding in this album, it's been a great addition to the sound of Saosin.
However the lyrics are very vague most of the time, not quite as powerful or up to par as their older lyrics, with the exception of two or three songs. I think Cove still has some lyrical maturing to do with Saosin. Maybe he's afreaid to let loose...or maybe he just isn't strong lyrically. We'll see... The bonus DVD is alright. Slightly informative, moderately dull, and somehow Howard Benson gets more interview time than Cove Reber...which no one wants. Get the DVD for the 'Lost Symphonies' video, otherwise just get it without the DVD.

Cove - 5 stars. Saosin - 4 stars. Benson - 1 star.,

Well, it's true - the record is overproduced. Howard Benson was the wrong choice, especially when Beau could have self-produced it. The songs are not quite as complex, the guitars are not as assaulting (vocals are the prominent instrument in the mix), and the overall sound is not as dynamic or energetic as previous efforts.
However, this is a great album. Cove does an amazing job on vocals and every song features stunning and memorable melodies from him. Where you sometimes (not often) can recognize guitars in the same key as other songs or similar structure in them, you can not accuse Cove of reworking any vocal lines. This album, although making Saosin sound a little more like those bands they despise, is worth owning. It may not get as much play time as your copy of Translating the Name, but it will be enjoyable! The bonus DVD, while slightly informitive, is not very entertaining and has almost no replay value. Interviews are short and bland, and seeing Howard Benson (the man responsible for our dissappointment with this record) provokes one to anger. Anyway, seriously; DO buy this album. You'll dig it. p.s. It should be said in Howard's defense that his specialty is producing vocals. So perhaps Cove would not have been as impressive on this album if it were not for having Benson on the project. K, I'm done now. ;)

Brilliant,

This CD is awesome. Songs that stand out are It's Far Better to Learn, Follow and Feel, I Never Wanted To, and Some Sense of Security. Buy it from Best Buy for like 6 bucks.

A Kid's Review

honestly, saosin vocally live is amazing, cove is in my opinion better than anthony green live and i have seen both multiple times. this album is in my opinion one of the best full lengths i have ever heard, definetly top five. the songs are all amazing, listen to bury your head ten or twenty times and you will get used to it, but ya i was like wtf?!? when i hear it I skip it most of the time now. but not dissaponting by any means, some people are so hard on people, not overproduced to the extent you guys are making it out ot be. was bury your head? yes, the rest? not really. if youd never heard it before, then it would be fine if not excellent, so one mediocre (or even above average) song does not a bad cd make, relax this cd is amazing if you like this kind of music it is an essential

Since the departure of Anthony Green Saosin has never been the same. Saosin used to have a good sound to it with the screaming from Anthony but with Cove he just doesnt take it there. This new Saosin way overproduced their album with to much effects totally killing whatever original music aspects they had from the old Saosin. They should have changed their name or something.
But as far as the cd goes..it is pretty good...if you like bands like yellowcard. Saosin is now a pop band ladies and gentlemen. I like it cause music is music, but as far as names goes this isnt saosin. Buy the cd i guess..or but the circa survive or the sound of animals fighting with anthony green.

Saosin is one of the best bands of our time. I know it takes them a long time to ever come out with new music, but when they do it's always awesome. To put it simply, this band is great and the deluxe edition is more than worth it. GET THIS!

Solid Album,

This is an amazing first album for Saosin.
Sure Anthony Green left but Cove Reber definitely lived up to Anthony's expectations. The DVD is pretty cool showing you how the album was made. All in all I give this 5 stars.
