Book Description

December 9, 1999 The Enterprise Resource Planning
-- Reporting is the #1 Concern -- One area of great concern to SAP users, developers and consultants alike is reporting. At a recent ASUG (America's SAP User Group) convention, the number one concern of the attendees was lack of documentation or training available on reporting in SAP.
-- No clear documentation -- There are several methods that can be used to create reports in R/3, but there is no reporting documentation or training. Users are left to rely on consultants and professionals to create reports for them written in ABAP code. This is very expensive.
-- Large Market -- SAP is the leading ERP company, and for every one implementation consultant, there are 20 users who work with the system on a daily basis.

This book is for the end user.

From the Back Cover

The first practical guide to creating and customizing reports in the SAP/3 system without programming!

One of the key reasons to implement the SAP R/3 system in any organization is the ability to integrate information from every division of your company, and then generate reports that display the data in a useful format. But, whether you're an SAP user, developer, or consultant, you know that there is limited information available that shows how to locate and execute standard reports in SAP as well as how to retrieve data and create your own standard SAP reports. This user-friendly, practical guide will walk you through the process of creating, customizing, and producing reports quickly and easily.

Written by a recognized expert and SAP technical trainer, this book can help you to:

  • Generate standard finance, manufacturing, and sales reports for all SAP modules
  • Utilize the SAP delivered tools to maximize the output from the Human Resources module
  • Increase the value of data by customizing reports to your company's needs
  • Fully understand the reporting tools that can be used by end users with no programming skills whatsoever
  • Save time and expense by not having to rely on outside consultants to create reports

With the clear, step-by-step instructions found inside this focused, hands-on guide, you'll get the skills you need to leverage the value of your company's data--and send your business to the front of the pack!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, November 7, 2001
By
Michael Stringfellow (Raleigh, NC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sap R/3 Reporting Tools (Paperback)
As some of the other reviews have stated, this book is not a bad place to start, but it comes up well short of delivering on its promises. The highlights on the front cover of the book state that "advanced reporting concepts" are covered. I disagree. This book barely covers the basics. On page 239 the author briefly mentions Functional Areas without Logical Databases, but then claims that "advanced ABAP programming skills are required for this type of functional area creation." I have no ABAP programming experience but frequently use this method for my queries. If you have basic knowledge of the tables that contain your data its not that difficult. This is the true power of queries. A reasonably experienced user can meet his or her own reporting needs.

If you're just getting started with queries this book will give you the basics, but you'll need to find other sources (or teach yourself) to really take advantage of their potential.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not near as comprehensive as the title leads one to believe, April 4, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Sap R/3 Reporting Tools (Paperback)
This book focuses almost exclusively on a basic introduction to the ABAP query. Not more than a half page is devoted to Report Painter/Writer and nothing is mentioned about the Logistics Information System.

1.0 out of 5 stars Documentation, June 24, 2000

This book is essentially spruced up documetnation. You'd get more out of an SAP training class.
