Product Description

Product Description

SAPPHIRE HD 7950 3GB OC with Boost Vapor-X Edition has the latest GDDR5 memory clocked at 5000MHz effective, and runs with a core clock speed of 850 MHz which with PowerTune Dynamic Boost rises to 950 MHz on the engine. It has a slightly less sophisticated 8-phase power design and the versatile output configuration of Dual-link DVI-I, DVI-D, HDMI and DisplayPort. The Vapor-X cooler is based on a new vapor chamber designed especially for this series. Heat is carried away by four heatpipes (2 x 8mm plus 2 x 6mm), and finally dispersed by two 90mm fan with aerofoil blades and dust repelling bearings. The Vapor-X cooler easily handles the heat generated from the HD 7950 even under extreme load conditions.

Just received my new Sapphire 7950 Vapor-X OC with Boost!!!! All I can say is..."OH MY GOSH!!!!" This card is an absolute beast!!! From the minute I took it out of the packaging and held it in my hand I knew I was holding a Sapphire card. This thing is really well built, sturdy and strong, and the custom PCB is quite large. (9.5" but the total length of the card is 10.8" because of the fan shroud) so to those of you who have a tight case, measure accordingly. Best thing is the 8-pin and 6-pin plugs are on the side facing up, so the plugs don't add additional length. I read a lot of reviews and customer comments before I bought this card, and don't believe the negative statements. This card is cool and quiet! In fact it is the quietest card I have ever owned! My case fans are louder than it is. Even under load, it never gets very loud or hot. The warmest I have seen it so far was only 58 deg, Cel., and this was after 6 hrs of gaming. Here are some of the game that I have played with it so far:

Batman Arkham City
Torchlight 2
Crysis 2
Sleeping Dogs
Max Payne 3
NBA 2K13
Ridge Racer Unbounded
Modern Warefare 3
Battlefield 3
Dirt 3
Spec Ops the Line
Need for Speed Most Wanted (2012)
Medal of Honor Warfighter

All of these I can max out, turn up the MSAA, and see fps I could only dream of getting with my now former 5850 Toxic. Again this is a great card!!!! You won't be disappointed!!! Fantastic!!!!

I build custom high-end PCs for gaming and cryptocoin (Bitcoin, BTC, Litecoin, LTC, etc) mining so I've tried almost every brand's 7950 and this is one of my favorites. I was skeptical of the Vapor-X cooling but it does seem to make difference, running the card 5-10 degrees Celsius (10-20F) cooler than even the Dual-X Sapphire card which is pretty cool itself. So it will be faster at the same noise level or quieter at the same performance. It's also more tunable: you can over and under clock both the GPU and memory more than any other card I've tried.

The only thing I would change would be to add a switch to turn off the white on-board LED. It doesn't really matter unless you have toddlers drawn to such things and if you do a small piece of electrical tape is a cheap, easy fix. Just be careful to cover only the LED so you don't interfere with cooling.

For servers you stick in the basement you probably don't care about noise but if you have it anywhere near your ears (or your family's) this is the card you want. The only others that come close are the Sapphire Dual-X 7950 with boost and MSI R7950 TWIN FROZR.

This Card comes with 850 mhz on the core with a button that make it run at 950 mhz.
After that if you know a bit you can overclock the hell out of it, I ended at 1200 mhz, on the core and 1575 on the memory(be carefull, if you dont know how the voltage and OC works.
it makes it a beast when comparing to some other cards from the competence. At this point it can easily compete with a 680 factory OC,
I upgraded from a 6950 xfx, I gain more than 20 frames on most games, and the temperature is so much cooler than my old 6950 with it I hit 90° C easily, with this card I rarely go over 73° C @1200mhz on the core and 1575mhz on the memory.

If you're thinking about buying between 660ti and 7950, I highly recommend taking a look at this card. Esthetics after installation is fantastic. I hated the blue PCB, but once installed inside the case (with side panel window) it is hardly noticeable. Once you turn on the computer, the Sapphire logo lights up with white LED and the Boot BIOS button lights up blue. Those features are very sexy and pleasing inside any case with a window.

Now on to the performance. Without the Boost BIOS enabled, the card is very mediocre (850 MHz). With the Boost BIOS, it runs at 950 MHz, which is acceptable for most users. But if you're an overclocker like myself, you will love this card. The overclock was very very easy with MSI Afterburner. I just set the "Power Limit" to +20, bumped the core clock to 1000 MHz, ran 3DMark 11 for stability, no errors or crash, so far so good. I increased the core clock 10 MHz each stable benchmark, and eventually achieved 1200 MHz core, 1500 MHz memory with stock voltage (1.125 mV)! Very, very pleased overclocker! 3DMark11 GPU socre over 10k, stable in all the games I play (avg <60 fps), with max temperature of 55 degrees.

This card is neck to neck with 660ti @ 1080p, but if you're going to run it @ 1200p and over this card has the advantage! It runs similar fps as 670 @ 1600p for $100 less. Definitely the best price/performance for high resolution set up!

I'll tell you from the start that I'm no computer expert, and I've really only been on the PC gaming scene for just over a year, but this card is awesome. My first build ran an MSI Radeon HD 7770, and there really is no comparison to the 7950 here. With the next generation of gaming consoles coming out soon, I knew that PC games were going to start taxing my old hardware more and more, and I knew the 7770 wouldn't last me much longer along with the AMD FX-4100 CPU I had been running with it. As soon as I had unboxed the 7950, installed it, and fired up Battlefield 3, I instantly knew what I had been missing. The 7950 runs every game I have thrown at it with ease, and it still stays nice and cool in the process while keeping my FPS at over 60 at all times.

I did my research before buying this card, and although the 7970s looked enticing, I really couldn't justify bumping my budget up another $100, when I knew this card would suit my needs. I don't over clock, so the idea of messing with the OC settings really doesn't appeal to me, but the addition of the easy OC button on the card is nice. I know it doesn't boost the memory that much, but it makes sense to have it on at all times.

Perhaps the only thing that threw me off was the size of the card. The 7770 seemed large when I installed it, but this thing dwarfs my old card by a good couple inches. It almost didn't fit in my mid sized case, but it works with my rig now. I'm anxious to see how this card will handle new games like Battlefield 4 and The Witcher 3 later this year and early next year respectively, but if current games like ARMA 3 and Battlefield 3 are any indication of how the 7950 will perform, I should be fine for quite some time at High to Very High video settings.
