Worth it, if you can get it!

The resolution that I play at is 2560x1440p and in most games this thing almost keeps up with my friend's Titan.

If you really want more performance you're better off putting it towards a second card for crossfire.

My previous card was the Sapphire HD6970 which was a great card when it was released but it started showing its age in newer games. The new Sapphire HD7970 is not only faster but cooler and quieter than the old card. This card is an average 45% faster than my old HD6970. My old HD6970 used to run hot under full load and I couldn't handle all the heat that it was putting out. My other components would overheat because of all the heat the HD6970 would put out.

The Sapphire HD7970 runs super cool in my system even though I have not done any cable management whatsoever. I have two of these bad boys running in crossfire and they can max anything I throw at it. At idle, the temperature hovers around 28c so that's pretty cool. While gaming, this card stays cool and quiet at 60C under full load in my Corsair 650D case. I have the fan set manually at 65% in CCC so it can keep the card cool while gaming. The fans get loud at about 70% so that's why I try to keep it at 65%. I have absolutely no problems maxing all the games out there and that's including Crysis 3, FC3, BF3, Metro Last Light/2033 and other demanding games.

The HD7970 performs above the GTX 680 in almost all major titles and AMD is getting better and better at quickly releasing beta drivers. This thing can overclock like a beast which says a lot about the architecture of the card. I have the card overclocked at 1200/1600 and it handles it fine. This is the maximum overclock that my card can hold without starting to crash in games. The resolution that I play at is 2560x1440p and in most games this thing almost keeps up with my friend's Titan.

My full rig:

Case: Corsair 650D
GPU: Sapphire 2xHD7970 @ 1.2 GHz
CPU: Intel Core i7 3770K @ 4.8 GHz
PSU: Corsair AX850, PSU
Ram: Kingston 16GB of RAM
SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB
MB: ASUS Sabertooth Z77
OS: Windows 7 64bit

The first few hours i had this card I had major artifacts and rendering errors. I actually requested a refund in the first few hours of owning the card. As the thermal paste has set in however the card is now flawless. I replaced 2 Gigabyte 5870 SOC 950Mhz 1GB cards in crossfire. In all titles at 1920X1080 with settings maxed so far the performance has been at least as good or better than the 5870 pair. In new titles FC3 and Hit man Absolution this card runs about 50 fps where the 5870's were getting about 30 fps.Tessellation is where the 5870's fall flat.

Memory:
6gb of memory is a big plus. I'm running 3 1080p monitors with no issues. In game frame-rates don't seem to be affected at all with activity on the other monitors.

Temps and OC:
Using the sapphire OC util Trixx I am getting 1220Mhz core and 1600Mhz on the memory with no extra voltage. Temps are great I have not seen above 60c yet. This is in winter air however, I would expect to see 75c on a warm day.

Great card!

AMD 8120 Eight Core CPU @ 4.1GHz
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD7 Motherboard (4 way crossfire)
16 Gb DDR3 Crucial memory.
120 Gb Crucial SSD SATA 3.0 HDD
Windows Eperience Index = 7.4

Still working on the settings but this card has already surpassed my expectations.
Currently running:
GPU clock settings at 1235 MHz.
Memory clock settings 1700 MHz.
Power control setting +20% over

Above that and the image starts getting pixelated.

Temperature runs high if I don't turn the fans up (51 C)
With the dual fans on manual fan control @100% (33 C)

This card is so far advanced above all the other card manufacturers that I can't see having to upgrade this card in a very long time.
It trully is an overclockers dream.
Well worth every penny.
I replaced two XFX HD5770 cards that I had crossfired together.
I couldn't even imagine what this PC could do if I installed four of these cards crossfired together.

Giving it a one star because it works too well. Husband uses 2 of these for BF4. I haven't seen my husband in a while. Never hear him screaming about graphics glitching, only hollering about getting fragged.

This single card replaced Two, count them TWO 4870x2's my power bill will drop a lot since those two cards were pulling around 752 watts under load and around 301 idle. This card is pulling around 99 idle and 314 under a full gaming load, just amazing and it is dead silent in my system.

Current have it overclocked to on stock voltages.
core: 1200mhz
ram: 1600mhz

So this card is running 3 screens, I have never seen the temperatures over 65C, and it idles around 45-49C depending on the room temp.

I wont bore you with frames rates or benchmarks as you can easily look them up.

Pros:
-True 6GB ram ( Other 6GB cards like the 7990, are "6GB" if you count that it has 6GB but its actually 3GB mirrored, you wouldnt count a raid 1 as double the value would you? I dont know how companies are legally getting away with that type of adertimsement but I feel people need to know. )
-Awesome temperatures
-Easy to overclock
-Very quiet compared to other graphics cards of this caliber

Cons:
-Says 2 slot, but really covers like 2.5, so it is really a 3 slot card
-It takes two 8 pin's not a 8 and a 6

Other thoughts:
-6Gb ram is totally overkill for any game even with 3 screens as the card will bottleneck itself before the ram will. I got the 6GB to help in rendering with CAD and Photoshop and I may expand to 6 screens or a nice 5x1 set up in the near future.
-4k monitors may require the 6GB frame buffer in the future but currently nothing truly needs that much as far as gaming.

Update:
7/27/13- I may have to take back what I said about games not using over 3GB of ram. Running metro over 3 screens with full AA, I hit around 4GB of vram usage. So if metro is your game you might want to invest in the more ram.
