5.0 out of 5 stars HD 5750 Graphics Card, December 14, 2009

This review is from: Sapphire Radeon HD5750 1 GB DDR5 2DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort PCI-Express Video Card 100284L (Personal Computers)
I am very please with the performance of this card as it looks really good playing games like Crisis, Modern WarFare 2, Doom 3 and Unreal Tournament 3. I wanted to replace my old but fairly new card (GT 120) that came with my Gateway LX-6810 desktop pc. I had to purchase a new power supply to power this card as the recommends at a 600 watt power supply for this card. I found a good deal on Amazon for an 850 watt AK power supply for $49.99. With such a great price on the card and finding a great price on the power supply, there was no reason for me to not upgrade my pc. I bought this card because I wanted to be able to run Crisis at the full settings. This card allows me to max out all of my settings on the Crisis game upto 1680 x 1050 which is what my monitor's resolution can handle. It ran great but, I still think it runs better with slightly lower settings. Overall, this card looks and responds really great.

I am using this card on a Win7 x64 system with an i7-860 + ASUS P755D Pro. The card is running two 25.5" ASUS VW266H 25.5-Inch Monitors at 1920x1200 on each monitor (3840x1200 combined).
I toyed around with eyefinity but decided not to use it since it made running programs at full screen troublesome since the center of the app is where the two monitors meet. That being said I can watch full screen video's and 3d screen savers and have no complaints. I am not a gamer just the occasional video here or there.

The card is quiet despite the fact that it has a fan, I never hear the thing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Please read before you buy, October 19, 2010

This review is from: Sapphire Radeon HD5750 1 GB DDR5 2DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort PCI-Express Video Card 100284L (Personal Computers)
I bought one of these recently to run it in crossfire w/ an existing oem 5750 in a system I bought. This was before I learned much about current generation video cards. If you are a buyer that is looking to buy 2 of these for crossfire. I highly recommend you stop right now. With the onslaught of next gen gpus coming out, prices on many quality GPUs have come down. So much, that you can get a ATI 4870 (a much more powerful card) for just $99. Unless you must run Direct X 11 games (for which there aren't many atm), ATI 4870 is a great card. Also you could buy a Nvidia 250 GTS for $70, and a pair of those in SLI would also outperform a pair of 5750s in crossfire.

Now back to 5750 in general. A 5750 is a budget card, filled with bells and whistles to meet today's needs. But a budget card it is. So do not expect to fly through games in highest settings at max resolution. This card won't do it for that purpose, individually or in crossfire. The Sapphire card that is beign sold here is not the top of the line 5750 even at Sapphire. The shroud is very similar to the reference design of the basic ATI 5750. The key difference is instead of all aluminum heatsink, Sapphire added copper core to the center of the heatsink, which in theory helps with thermal transfer.

However, in my particular purchase. The temperature was a good 5 degree higher at idle, and 10-12 degrees higher under load. Higher than my OEM 5750 which coincidentally also identified as Sapphire, however it has the shroud and fan design more similar to HIS. I played with postions of the gpus, brought air from various directions, but could never lower the temp gap. A 3-5 degree difference is to be expected but a 12 degree?

I even resorted to finding waterblocks to see if watercooling helps. This is when 5750 being a budget card again comes into play. Nobody makes an investment to make waterblocks for 5750! In despair, I decided to void my warranty perhaps but just opened it up for a look. Before I even unscrewed the base I noticed 2 of the screws had space between them and the board while the other 2 didn't. Upon detaching the heatsink from gpu, I noticed a huge amount of thermal compound. I wiped everything clean, and reapplied a line of arctic silver and miraculously the temp at idle dropped to the low 40s, and under full Kombustor dx11 multigpu stress test, tops out at just 71, whereas before it would go to 84, and one time 104 before I set up a wind tunnel for it.

I still rate this card a 3 star because if you must have a dx 11 card, it is still one of the best values. But the particular item I purchased no doubt wasn't well put together. However, I recommend any buyers, unless you are stuck like I was, to consider the great deals out there today that boasts huge performance improvement over this one at a lower cost.

The card is incredibly fast and works great in Windows 7 and Ubuntu (install Catalyst drivers from the AMD website). Runs everything I've tried at 1680x1050 with max settings at good frame rates when paired with an i5-750. I couldn't be happier with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for the money, December 23, 2010

This review is from: Sapphire Radeon HD5750 1 GB DDR5 2DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort PCI-Express Video Card 100284L (Personal Computers)
I've owned this card for about a month now and haven't had any problems. I can play BFBC2 on maxed out settings at 1680x1050 (medium resolution), or at 1920x1200 and reduced settings. Either way the game looks great and is a huge step up from Intel HD (integrated Clarkdale). BFBC2 is the most stressing game I own, so that's all I'll comment on, but I'm not really a hardcore gamer so I envision this card lasting me for a few years. Noise-wise I can definitely hear the card, but it is by no means loud. The biggest downside is that this card has almost doubled my power consumption.

Speaking of power consumption, and for those of you that haven't done your homework, the box advises a minimum 450W PSU for a single card, or 600W for two in SLI. This is of course complete and utter rubbish. I'm running a single card on a 380W Antec Earthwatts Green PSU with no problems whatsoever, and wouldn't sweat about adding a second in SLI. Detailed testing (done by techpowerup) shows that this card maxes out under 90W, which agrees with published TDP figures. My own testing (using a Kill-A-Watt also purchased at Amazon.com) shows my total power consumption (measured at the wall) while gaming maxing out around 150W. This means I can add a second card and still comfortably remain at under 60% of my PSU rating. A high quality ATX v2 speced 300W PSU should have no problems running this card, the key words here being *high quality* and *ATX v2.* Unfortunately a lot of OEM PSUs that come with computers aren't really high quality or might be older ATX spec, so if that's all you have then aim for the skies. If you are looking for a PSU though, I would recommend a high quality PSU in the 350W range such as my Antec EA-380D Power Supply. When it comes to power supplies, I always recommend quality over quantity.

A previous user commented that this was a budget card on its way out. I would say this is more of a lower midrange card, and as such it will play most games out today at good settings ("console" settings :P), but not at great settings. This card is also a great value at this price point. It's so great in fact that AMD is rebranding it and it's bigger brother as HD 67xx and will continue to sell them with the next gen of cards. The older cards can also be good values if you can find good prices and don't mind increased power use, but at this price point, you won't regret buying this card (unless you get a dud). However you should definitely also consider the HD 5770 and the Nvidia GTS 450.

Also some installation advice: download the catalyst drivers from AMD beforehand.

My overall system for the curious:
Intel Core i3-530
Biostar TH55B HD
2x2GB G.skill ECO DDR3 1600 cl7
Sapphire Radeon HD 5750
90 GB OCZ Vertex 2
500 GB WD Caviar Green
Lite-on iHAS424-98
Antec 300
Antec Earthwatts Green 380D

Put together a new computer from scratch for the first time, instead of rebuilding existing units. The major pieces are an Intel DP55SB Extreme mobo, i7 860 processor, 650wd-HD, Sony 7241 DVD-RW, Win7pro64, Nero 10, 4gb Patriot Viper 1600 RAM, and this Sapphire HD5750 card. I will write more on this later. The video card was my first major upgrade in video processing on computers since a couple of ATI x1950pro cards. I really took my time making sure that all the pieces meshed together, and waited 'til the end to decide on the video option. Most of the items came from Amazon too.

I don't think the card was over $150 and it is giving me some numbers that are staggering compared to the 'ol x1950. Once I got the system up and running, more on that later too, I went straight to one of my favorite quickie mini games, Half life: Lost Coast, which has a video stress test to measure frames per second. My 3.2ghzHT XP Gateway with the ATIx1950 always came in at 28-35fps, and ran all the HL's just fine. I dialed it up on the new system and got a whopping 220fps! I had to put my glasses on to see if there was a decimal point in there anywhere, WOW! I didn't realize I was this far behind in the computing world. The next game I loaded up was STALKER, and it did not disappoint me. I have never been able to get this game to run without plenty of chop suey. In fact, it looked so good on the HD5750 that it did not even look like the same game. I am definitely sold on this video card. I will add more on this later.

Great Product. I have not yet to test out the Direct X 11 version as for gaming for this suppose has not been released. Great buy for the future of gaming. I'm running a Quad-Core with 4gigs of 1366mhz and there is no flaw in this unit. Over elasped time play there is no rigid movement in gaming it is hard and solid in its performance through my long hours of usage.

I picked up the Sapphire Radeon HD 5750 for my HTPC. I needed to connect via HDMI and didn't want to use the usual DVI to HDMI converter that are offered with so many cards. It connected right up and even shows that I'm hooked up to my Sharp 42" LCD TV. It had drivers for Windows 7 on the website that helped to tweak the settings of the card to some pretty incredible settings. Easy to use interface. The fan keeps the GPU processor running cool even with very high end gaming at full resolution and max settings.

OK, now for the CON: At full 1080p resolution it doesn't utilize the full 42" of the LCD. I lose about 1/2" all the way around the screen and can't get support from Radeon to fix it. I'm sure it is something I'm doing and not the fault of the TV or the card but it would be nice to have that little bit extra for watching movies and TV in HD.

All in all, a great card.
