Product Description

The SAPPHIRE HD 7870 XT with Boost delivers a new price: performance point to the series. It is based on AMD’s Tahiti architecture with its 256-bit memory interface, and 1536 stream processors and 96 Texture units, unlike the remainder of the HD 7800 series that uses the Pitcairn architecture. Configured with 2GB of high speed GDDR5 memory running at 1500 MHz (6GHz effective) the SAPPPHIRE HD 7870 XT has a core clock of 925MHz which dynamically rises to 975MHz with PowerTune Boost, AMDs dynamic performance enhancement for games. For enthusiasts wishing to maximize performance of this graphics card, the latest version of the SAPPHIRE overclocking tool, TriXX supports this technology and is available free to download from the SAPPHIRE website. SAPPHIRE TriXX allows tuning of GPU voltage as well as core and memory clocks, whilst continuously displaying temperature. Manual control of fan speed is supported, as well as user created fan profiles and the ability to save up to four different performance settings.

I've had nothing but good experiences with this card so far (I was the very first order).

Without overclocking, I am far exceeding the performance of my 560 and able to run most all modern games on high settings with no issues at all.

Much cheaper than a 7950- you can overclock this card to stock 7950 levels and you can also crossfire with a 7950 and a 7970!

I've had nothing but good experiences with this card so far (I was the very first order). I haven't tried overclocking it, but trixx (Sapphire's oc utility) seems to run fine with the card. I'm getting a consistent minimum 60fps in games like Batman Arkham City, Deus Ex Human revolution, and Portal 2. I have yet to try Skyrim since I plan on waiting for that game to go on sale.

The card itself is acoustically quiet until the fans go over 50%, then you can hear it. The $20 premium over other tahiti cards is worth it for the cooler imho, not to mention the better memory. When I find a game that pushes it at my resolution (1920x1200), I'll update about the overclocking results, but until then I don't see a reason to OC. This card is really meant as a cheaper crossfire solution combined with an hd 7950 or 7970, but it's also just a great card for 1920x1200 by itself. My only gripe is that there weren't any free games. Hopefully Sapphire/Amazon will throw on Bioshock Infinite and Crysis 3 in a week or so and Amazon will allow the early adopters the games.

Amazing card for 1080p gaming. It'll run most modern stuff maxed out around 60fps. If you're rocking 1440p you might want a little faster card. Runs Crysis 3 on VHQ great. Quiet fans, even while in game. My last video card sounded like a jet taking off in comparison. This also overclocks like crazy with the stock ATI utilities. 1200mhz core is a pretty reasonably objective. At those clocks you push 7970 like performance. Price/performance champion for 1080p gaming.

Sapphire did the world a favor and possibly themselves a disservice with this card. Being based on a cutdown Tahiti chip from the 7900 series instead of an uprated Pitcairn chip from the 7800 series it sets itself up as a 'tweener card, splitting the difference performance-wise between the 7870 and the 7950. The good news: Out of the box, it's a bit faster than a stock 7870 (naturally) without costing much more, if at all. the 7870 XT also overclocks nicely, meaning it will also be faster than an overclocked 7870, factory or otherwise (and less expensive than a factory OC 7870 to boot). The 7870 XT will actually be much closer in speed to a stock 7950, and with some overclocking, faster at some games. All of this adds up to an unbelievable value leader for the consumer and a problem for the manufacturer. Priced as it is, buying a stock, or overclocked, 7870 doesn't make much sense, as you have an uprated chip and overclocking room with the 7870 XT for the same price, or less. A 7950 will beat the 7870 XT, depending on which card. The question is, will the performance be worth the $50+ price difference between the 7870 XT and a 7950? Only you and your accountant know for sure.

For me, it was a no brainer. I can run Tomb Raider just about maxed out at 60fps. The card is pretty quiet with the fans under 50%, and even when they do ramp up it's more a loud whisper than a turbine starting up. Overclocking is a snap (adjusting the base clock and the voltage is a bit more stable than futzing with the memory clock, FWIW). . Being able to perform nearly as well as a 660ti or a 7950 for the price of the 7870 XT is a win win. If you're playing on a huge panel or have to have the top of the line, by all means skip this one. But, at 24" and below, this card will run just about anything you can throw at it, and you'll have money to buy a few games. Highly recommended.

My previous GPU was an NVIDIA 8500 GT, so this was a HUGE step up for me.

If you're looking to game at 1920x1080, or 1920x1200 w/ high->very high settings, this is an excellent choice. If you want to game at 2560x1440 or 2560x1600 w/ high->very high settings, you probably need to consider a 7950/7970 or equivalent NVIDIA card, or consider a multi-gpu solution.

Card seated easily, provides several ports (2x MDP, HDMI, and DVI-D) note that many monitors don't have MDP input, thankfully Sapphire provides both a DVI-> VGA adapter, and an MDP->DP adapter. I had an MDP->DP cable already so I used that, but it was nice to see that that was included. A crossfire connector was also included. I've seen some good reviews of 7870's in crossfire configs, but I wasn't terribly interested in that.

W/ a i7-3770K and 16gb of RAM, @1920x1200 I'm able to play:
Skyrim
Deus Ex: HR
Dawn of War 2
Starcraft 2
FO3/FO:NV
@ maxed out everything @ 60+fps. I'm extremely happy.

I get 40-50 fps w/ Witcher 2 @ Ultra w/ AA. Very pleased.

The only difficulty I had with this GPU was with the Radeon Catalyst Control Center drivers. The drivers that came with the GPU on a CD installed fine, but when I tried to update CCC with the latest Radeon drivers (13.1), it failed to install the display driver, even with a completely clean driver installation. I tried updating to the beta drivers for CCC (13.3 at this time) and everything worked fine. A relatively minor hiccup, and nothing to warrant a significant penalty.

This GPU hits a sweet spot in price/performance between the 7850, and the boost edition 7950, and is an excellent choice for gaming at 1920x1200 or 1920x1080.

I have had this card in my system since 05/27/2013 and I must say this is a really great card! Its easily the best and fastest card I have ever owned. Originally, I was leaning towards an Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 Vapor x w/ boost, but this card seemed to be the best bang for your buck! I have my card over clocked 1150/ 1600 from the stock speeds 975/ 1500. I get really good FPS with my over clock. If you over clock this video card you can exceed stock 7950 speeds! I can play all my games on very high or ultra. This includes- Tomb Radier, Bioshock Infinite, Civilization 5, Battlefield 3, Farcry 3 Blood Dragon, Metro: Last Light, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Crysis: Warhead, soon to be Crysis 3, Call of Duty: MW2, Guild Wars 2, League of Legends and many others, Buy this card! Much cheaper than a 7950- you can overclock this card to stock 7950 levels and you can also crossfire with a 7950 and a 7970! Temps are also good with this card. My temps idle between 29-31 degrees on this card and underload (Gaming) my temps never go over 67 degrees! Keep in mind i have over clocked this card and temps are still good!

My Gaming Rig
Case: Coolermaster HAF 932 Full Tower

Video Card: Sapphire HD 7870 XT with Boost=> 1150/ 1600 MHz
RAM: 12 GB Kingston HyperX DDR1333 (Buying new RAM soon)
Power Supply: Thermaltake 600 watt
