1.0 out of 5 stars Defective BIOS
I ran GPU-Z to check the card after hearing about the BIOS issue on some of the Sapphire vapor-x cards and I had a bad one only shows 720 of the 800 Stream Processing Units it's suppose to have. I don't have a USB flash drive to fix the BIOS according to the Sapphire web site. I opened a tech support ticket told them I don't have a USB drive and asked if there was another...

This review is from: Sapphire Radeon Vapor-X HD 5770 1 GB DDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card 100283VXL (Personal Computers)
Runs Dragon Age: Origins at max quality 1280x1024 flawlessly. Runs quiet, couldn't hear it over my PCP&C 750 power supply even at load, GPU-Z log says fan never went over 40%, 33C idle 54C load, ~25C ambient in a big case.

This model came with an older BIOS, only gives 720 stream processors. Sapphire's website has a PowerPoint download that has links and describes the process where you can format a USB thumb drive to flash the card to the new BIOS. If you can follow instructions or have flashed a BIOS before, you'll be fine. 800 stream processors show up for me now. I also downloaded the driver (only) from the ATI site, 9.12. Haven't installed CCC yet - I want to evaluate the card further.

Card looks good, the Sapphire logo is backlit by a blue LED, and the PCB is black, matches my MB. A bit shorter than the 8800GTS.

This card is replacing an EVGA 8800GTS 320 OC, which was fitted with a Thermalright heatsink and fan. I was able to run Dragon Age: Origins with the old card at average quality with no AA, and it stuttered in taxing situations. Thanks EVGA, a great card, still works fine, but nVidia currently can't match the value of the 5770, and this is an excellent version. The heatsink and fanshroud seem well-designed, and I anticipate some overclocking capability without needing a different cooling setup. If you want to run some of the great new games, and have an older card, I recommend this card as an upgrade.

The system: DFI Lanparty DK X48, 2GB Geil 4-4-4-12 DD2 @960, 2 x WD250 in RAID0, E8500 @3.6Ghz, LianLi PC7077 (huge case, lots of air), Windows XP SP3 32bit.

I ordered it around 2pm, chose next day delivery (yay Prime!), and I got it at 10am the next morning. Thanks Amazon!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Vapor-x is win, February 5, 2010

This review is from: Sapphire Radeon Vapor-X HD 5770 1 GB DDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card 100283VXL (Personal Computers)
I bought this card about 1 month ago, and it fairly decent, obvious is not the top dog, in the market but it gets the job done, I have an XFX 5750 and a Sapphire 5770 with the reference heatsink and fan those 2 cards are noiser and runs like 7 degrees higher, the Vapor-X version runs cooler and quite so is a better option, over the Reference ones or the ones with the cheap fan, at the moment I bought the card was around $175 so is pretty much the price range of the other versions of this card, is a easy OC card so the better fan and heatsink is even better if you plan to OC.

In the performance department the card does great, I have 2 displays one is 1280x1024 and the other is 1680x1050, I have play DA:O with Maxed out graphics and at 1680x1050, with 2x AA and Vsync runs solid with no lag even on demanding parts, the same with Fallout 3, Resident evil 5, UT3, Batman AA, now with Dirt2 i max out the resolution my main display gives with all graphics maxed and 2x AA and it runs about 28-30 frames is playable tho the main menu you can feel a drop in frames like around 25 its still playable tho.

I also tried Crysis Warhead at 1680x1050 everything on Enthusiast settings and vsync with no filters, i got around 18-30 frames, in most of parts is playable but in some parts the frames drops to much to actually keep the pace I OCed the Card to 960mhz core and 1400mhz Memory, and Im able to play Crysis at those settings with frames around 22-30 and is fairly playable.

Also is mentionable the fact that in most of the games except for crysis I had my 2 displays working the main one for the game and the secondary one for web browsing or music or any other type of stuff.

The only 2 complains are the BIOS flash you must do if you get one of the infamous 720 shaders ones, even tho this is easy to do with a USB flash or a bootable CD, this is supposed to be one of the special versions of the card and that type of simple mistake is not acceptable. The other complain is more about the packaing of the card is pretty cheap you dont get any games or extra software, you only get the out of date drivers CD, and the box is pretty cheap Sapphire is not know for their packaing even the XFX 5750 had better packaing and that was the cheap version of the card, so shame on you Sapphire.

But overall this is one of the best Bang X Buck card on the market now, So if you on a budget and want eyeinfinity, DX11, good performance, a quite cool fan and you want it NOW, not in 3 to 6 months when prices drop for the 58XX, you should totally for this card.

5.0 out of 5 stars Runs COLD, January 12, 2010

BIOS
The card i received had the defective bios, which was no problem - i went to the sapphire site and flashed the card via the instructions from the site.

Temperature/Overclock
Installed MSI Afterburner to manage overclocking, which was recommended by most ATI users on the web. Using the application, Ive overclocked the card from 860/1200 to 975/1300 while manually setting the fan to 60% speed. With these settings ive gotten about 30-35C while idle and 40-45C on load. These temperatures are WAY cooler than temps reported by other users on other cards

Performance
So far i've only tested a few games TF2, assassins creed(1), bioshock, and mass effect, with mass effect being the main game ive played so far. Needless to say ive been able to max out the settings @ 1280x1024 (my monitor only goes so far) afterburner is reporting 62FPS but i havnt run any of the benchmarking programs yet, i dont really care to, as game performance is most important. Im planning to hook the computer up to my tv soon and try running it at 1080p (1920x1080) Ill probably update my review then.

If youre looking for a 5770 with great cooling and OC potential this is a great solution

This review is from: Sapphire Radeon Vapor-X HD 5770 1 GB DDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card 100283VXL (Personal Computers)
Ive always been a bit of a technological geek and i love to upgrade my computer but sometimes that can get a little expensive. On my latest quest to upgrade my videocard (i was running an old 9600gt) i wanted to get one that would last me about a year and that was able to play blurray and the latest games smoothly. After debating whether going to a 9800gtx or the hd5770 i finally decided to go for the radeon vapor hd5770. This card has been amazing, ive overclocked it by more than 20% and it still runs cool and stable, though it wont run crysis suuuuppper smoothly on high (though its still very playable (25-30 fps) on a 1440X900 screen, it is able to run dragon age,and a bunch of other of the newest games maxed out. it is also very silent and big.

pros: good price, dx11, eyefinity, cool and silent, runs alot of games on high

cons: mine came with a glitch in which the bios reads 720 shaders not 800, easy fix if you read the documentation on the website takes up two pci-e slots on my smaller sized case, but might only be a problem with my smaller board and case.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works well/stays cool, January 22, 2011

I bought a 5770 V-card [primarily]to play WOW, and suspect that any similar V-card will deliver wonderful FPS, but the VAPOR-X cooling system promises, and delivers, great performance/low temperature that I'd expect will deliver long product life as well.

Card has been in-service for over a year and my WOW latency/FPS 'hovers' at around 100/75 FPS [with all settings at 'suggested', or higher], and both temps stay VERY low.

IF your on a budget and want a really good graphic Card , well look no more. This card is amazing , i play most game in max settings and get outstanding Frames Per seconds, with the exception of Crysis, but i still can run crysis on 1050p and everything max except shaders and get 30+ fps. This Card stays real Cool and is amazing for overcloking. THis is the best 5770 card for overclocking.

I opened a tech support ticket told them I don't have a USB drive and asked if there was another solution in response they just directed me to the site again for instructions to flash the bios with a USB drive that I had already told them I didn't have. I replied that their suggestion wasn't helpful this is the reply I got, copied and pasted here:

" I understand its a hassle to do this, but thats the only way to fix this issue you have, can you check around to see if a friend has one you can borrow? I mean USB pen drivers are very popular amongs computer users these days."

I am returning the card, why should I have to buy a USB drive to fix a defective BIOS on a new video card. The card didn't perform well at all, perhaps because of the BIOS issue. I couldn't even play WOW smoothly at 1280x1024 with high settings so it's back to my old 9600GT card for now.
