A terrific piece of history that is just as relevant today as it was when first published., September 20, 2006
This review is from: Sapphistry: The Book of Lesbian Sexuality (Paperback)
Make sure to get the editions where the cover states 'lovingly illustrated by Tee Corinne'. The editon I have didn't.
This nicely informative book was first published in 1980 and again in 1983 and 1988. It is made all the better by the sexy and fun drawings crafted by Tee A. Corinne.
There is a forward by Phyllis Lyon, an introduction by Pat Califia, a Resource list and the book is indexed. The chapter headings -
The Erotic Imagination
Self-Loving
Partners
Communication
Common Sexual Concerns
Youth, Age and Sex
Disabled Lesbians
Variations
Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Passion: An Afterward
Have something for everyone and is worth reading cover to cover.
This is a Keeper!
Even though the 3rd edition does not contain the illustrations it is still worthwhile to have.
The back cover of the book -A widely informative, intelligent and clearly written book with a bias of tolerance for diversity." - Jane Rule
"Pat Califia's approach to our sexuality is challenging, accepting, caring and practical. She blends specific information with a deep appreciation of the power and necessity of our sexual play. Lesbian sexuality is a full, diverse world where women please each other. Our sexuality shares our life. It changes with illness, it ages, it is a medium for theoretical as well as physical explorations. Our sexuality must be fully explored, and SAPPHISTRY helps us to do this." - Joan Nestle Founding Member of the Lesbian Herstory Archives, New York
