Review

Through her pregnancy, yoga guru Sara Holliday put out yoga videos for each of the three trimesters. This is the best of the three. It's a 40-minute yoga practice that recognizes the difficulties of doing yoga with a big belly, yet doesn't oversimplify the workout. In fact, some women in their third trimester may find parts of this video too challenging. You begin sitting down, working on perfecting the yoga breath. Then you move on to several stretches from a seated position. Before you know it, you are on your feet, doing deep squats. This part will probably raise your heart rate, and you might even break a sweat. The next section is a standing portion with stretches that are great for the lower back. Next, it's back to the floor for moves that open up the pelvis and help prepare the body for childbirth. The final five minutes are spent in relaxation poses, helping you connect with your baby. Holliday is a fantastic instructor, who is in her third trimester. It's motivating to watch her do the moves, looking so fit and healthy. In addition, she is great about telling you why each move you are doing is important for your body or for your baby. The only problem with this video is the camera work. When Holliday gets up to do the standing portion, the camera doesn't move back right away, so you can't see everything she's doing. This happens more than once, and it can be quite distracting. - Amy Bertrand, Post-Dispatch Health and Fitness Editor --St. Louis Post Dispatch

Ah, the third trimester. You feel big and clumsy, you're anxious to meet your baby and get your body back, you're loving baby's movements and busy getting everything ready for your new arrival. You're tired, nervous, anxious and stressed. What should you do? Grab Sara Holliday's Prenatal Yoga for the Third Trimester for a fabulous "Calgon Take-Me-Away" experience! In this 37 minute yoga workout, you'll move through a series of yoga poses, many from a comfortable seated position, designed for women in their third trimester of pregnancy just like Sara Holliday, your workout instructor. Sara looks amazing and serene-two qualities that are especially motivating. You will feel gently worked out, lithe (yes, you CAN feel that way while pregnant) and relaxed. And there's no doubt that this workout will make you feel close to your baby. The beautiful scenery of this workout is a calming influence with waves rolling onto the beach at La Jolla, California. You can't help but release built up tension and stress. At the end of this lovely workout is a special relaxation for each muscle group followed by a "soothing meditation to help provide a deeper connection to the baby." Your baby will love it and so will you! Along with the mental and spiritual benefits of this workout, you will also help your body prepare for the demands of labor by increasing your strength and flexibility. Late pregnancy aches will also lessen by doing this workout regularly. Very few pregnancy workouts can claim they are a "mind, body, and spirit" workout but this one can! The only equipment you need is a mat and some pillows. Sara has also released yoga workouts for the first and second trimesters as well. Once your care providers clear you to exercise postpartum, any of Sara's prenatal yoga workouts can help you get back into an exercise routine. - Maribeth Doerr for Storknet.com --Storknet.com

During my third trimester, my fingers hurt, my knees ached and my back was killing me. That was on a good day. If only I had Sara Holliday's prenatal yoga video for the third trimester to help relieve my aching body. It may have worked better than sitting around eating ice cream. We've already covered the first two and The Third Trimester completes Sara's prenatal yoga DVD series. I found the ocean view calming and the moves easy to follow. The only problem is I was twice her size in both belly and body by the time I hit the third trimester. I m not sure how easy I would have found these poses days from giving birth. I suppose the benefits of relaxing and strengthening my body and mind would have been worth the attempt. You can never be too centered during your pregnancy, and that could only carry over into labor - when you ll need all the centering help you can get. If you've remained at all active before or during your pregnancy, you should find these gentle stretches and poses a comfort. Even if you are watching them from the sofa. - Cara for Urbanbabyrunway.com --Urbanbabyrunway.com

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic work out for Pregnancy!!, February 1, 2007
This review is from: Sara Holliday's Prenatal Yoga: Third Trimester DVD (DVD)
I am still in my second trimester but I have done this video several times and i love it! It has helped me to become more flexible and to strengthen my body and my mind! I feel like i have improved my breathing and lung capacity and she seems to stretch and strengthen all of the muscles and joints that are sore or uncomfortable from pregnancy. I have really enjoyed doing all of her videos and really feel like i had great workout when i am through. I even feel sore the next day which is something that i love because i know that i am improving! Thank you!!

3.0 out of 5 stars It's not bad, but..., June 1, 2007
This review is from: Sara Holliday's Prenatal Yoga: Third Trimester DVD (DVD)
I just got this DVD 3 days ago and tried it once, so I can't tell if it's gonna work for me or not when it comes to the program itself, but I'm going to give it a try and do it 2-3 times a week.
The reasons why I didn't like it so much from the beginning were:
1. I didn't like that there was no music in the background. It would be easier for me to concentrate if there was music. If you don't care - it's obviously not a big deal.
2. I do believe that breathing in Yoga is very important and sometimes I found it difficult to follow Sara's directions when it came to breathing because for some reason what she says doesn't always correspond with what's on the screen. E.g. she says "Inhale, arms up" but the video is showing her with her arms down. I find it quite confusing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great prenatal yoga class, June 8, 2007

A reviewer (New York, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sara Holliday's Prenatal Yoga: Third Trimester DVD (DVD)
I'm currently in my third trimester, and I've been using Holliday's DVDs regularly since the second trimester (I started with her second trimester DVD). I really feel a benefit from using them -- so far I've had very little back pain and I feel pretty limber for a pregnant woman. I just started Lamaze classes and can tell that the breathing I do in the DVD is going to help a lot with that as well.

The issues with the DVD production that some other reviewers have mentioned hasn't really bothered me. It's true, though, that the production value isn't very high and the workout doesn't seem to have been edited. Holliday makes a few little mistakes when she's speaking but after you've done the workout once or twice you can tell what she means, so that really didn't detract from it for me. The lack of music doesn't bother me.

The only thing I don't like about the workout is that sometimes it seems a little rushed when moving between poses (this happened in the Second Trimester workout as well). In the section at the end where she relaxes each muscle with a deep breath, she goes way too fast for me to actually take deep breaths.

Overall, though, a great DVD. Holliday has a very calm, kind personality and the stretches really feel good. I really anticipate that it will help me with my labor and delivery.
