I was fortunate enough to see Ms. Tavares live at the San Francisco Jazz Festival in 2007 and this DVD in this box set captures the exact good vibes you feel while watching her in person. Even if you already have her two albums, like myself, this purchase is worth the dupes.

I highly recommend it....

Times Square Records presents "SARA TAVARES - ALIVE IN LISBOA" (Amazon Exclusive) (2008) -- Sara Tavares (born 1978) is a Portuguese singer, composer and guitarist --- She is of Cape Verdean descent and grew up in Portugal --- She composes African influenced world music --- Tavares won the 1993/1994 final of the Endemol song contest Chuva de Estrelas (performing Whitney Houston's "One Moment in Time"), which helped her win the Portuguese Television Song Contest final in 1994, consequently earning a place the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest, with the song "Chamar a Música" --- In 2006 she made a TV advertising for the bank Millennium BCP.

Tavares is known for singing the European-Portuguese version of "God Help the Outcasts" for the Disney movie "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," which won a Disney award for the best translation without the original --- "I don't fit into one music genre of world music, I am no typical Cape Verdian musician. I'd rather stand at the beginning of a new tradition of music of the diaspora, of young African immigrants in Europe who don't only look back."

Sara as she sits on the stage, under dim light, plucking rippling melodies from a small thumb piano --- The audience includes many for whom her songs raise memories of their homeland or thoughts of their parents' birthplace --- And the songs seem to come to her like prayers. "Just me and my guitar," she tells the audience. "God and my imagination."

Having already purchased and loved her "Balance^" CD, I was delighted to receive this set with "Mi Ma Bo^"CD and "Alive in Lisboa" DVD. The DVD was worth the price alone for the interview and performance which show an artist and her band who love making beatiful and original music.

I fell upon Sara over a year ago and ordered this set. I have played it over and over again. She has a joyful gift that transcends any language. I recently played the dvd in the background of a party and within a few minutes of starting it, we were all gathered around to watch her perform for over an hour. It was a blast . . . we were all drumming along, singing and dancing to the beauty of Sara's voice and music. The value for what you get on this set is phenomenal. It is well produced and her back up group is equally gifted. You won't be disappointed - you'll end up wearing it out like I have!

Sara takes you on a wonderful music journey and you are having fun all the way. Enjoy her amazing sound.

IT WAS WORTH EACH PENNY! I THOUGHT THE 2 CDS WERE RELATED TO THE SAME CONTENT ON DVD. INSTEAD, I GOT 2 DIFFERENT ALBUMS, PLUS THE DVD! JUST GREAT!

This isn't our favorite CD of Sara's but the DVD is worth more than the price paid. We've viewed it twice (borrowed from our wonderful local library); the concert is very uplifting, her presence is so lovely, and the additional piece of Tavares and Anna Moura performing an informal a capella duet on a balcony overlooking Lisboa is fabulous.

I love this CD. Ms. Tavares's voice is warm, melodic, sensual, and inviting and is expertly complemented with her acoustic guitar playing. Even though I'm not a Portugese speaker, I highly, highly recommend this CD and can't wait for her next work.

I absolutely adore Sara Tavares and have all of her albums. My comment here is on the live DVD. Like moronic clapping audiences the world over, this audience ruined a good portion of the live performance with their out of time clapping. That's why I don't go to concerts anymore.
