Book Description

On a lonely two-lane highway through the foothills of Northern Colorado, Sara Jean Haller has disappeared. Her father, a rural county deputy, battles his own demons and a despotic sheriff in a desperate search to find his only child. Mike Haller must untangle a web of lies and secrets woven into the fabric of this small mountain town to discover the road that leads to his missing daughter.
Tony Hayden has laced together a story of struggle, hope and the untethered brutality of men without boundary that forces the reader up a dark mountain path to the edge of a shallow grave that hides no secrets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrifyingly brilliant February 3, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A terrifying opening to a novel will always get me in and "Sara" is no exception. The plot is simple - a young woman goes missing from her car outside a small rural town and her father comes to look for her. From the first moment the reader is privy to Sara's fate and the tension never eases.

The characters of Sara and her father are totally believable, which invites the reader to invest care in the outcome of their futures.

We share the frustration of Sara's father, Mike, as he is stymied at every turn, harassed, beaten up and had a shotgun pulled on him because he is trying to find his daughter and well aware that he is being diverted from the truth. Sara's mother, Jean, needed a good boot up the bum, which I for one would have been happy to give her.

The fast-pace and tight plot had me actually in a state of fear, skimming pages sometimes, not there was anything amiss with them, but because I HAD to find out what happened and fast.

The twisted ending was totally unexpected and very, very satisfying. Brilliant read, well done Tony Hayden. I hope you have written more novels!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast, engrossing read! September 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This crime suspense story captivated me from the first page. Although I don't care for graphic violence, the abduction scene was not gratuitous. It was horrifying and realistic. That's what drew me in. I immediately cared about Sara and wanted to know what would happen to her. The author paints descriptive scenes of the beautiful setting, which stands in contrast to the ugly human behavior. The story never gets bogged down in detail, but moves along quickly. I read this in one sitting. Like other reviewers stated, I did not want to put it down. I will be looking for other books by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Characters demand attention September 3, 2012
Format:Paperback
In this the third book by author Tony Hayden, you continue to meet a town's people who bring you into their lives and show you what ordinary people can achieve in extraordinary circumstances.
Sara, as well as her parents, demand your heart feel their pain, and the sheriff and his stepson demand your anger. This emotional roller-coaster story holds your interest as you demand a need for resolution.
You cheer Mike on as he searches for his daughter, you lend your will to Sara to help her survive this horrid event, and you can't help but wish horrific pain come to those who have done this. The shocker comes when you realize it isn't all as it seems.
A reader can't help but to keep reading Hayden's gripping tales of believable characters. Visit small-town Colorado with Hayden and see what his remarkable talent unveils next.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a captivating read... September 19, 2012
By Kim L
Format:Kindle Edition
Tony needs to keep writing, and fast!!! He's an author that we need to see more from! I had to go back and re-read this book again, and I only do that with a book that has enough twists in it that I wonder how I missed seeing them coming, and if it's good enough, I go back and re-read it with that in mind. It's that captivating of a book, though, and I enjoyed it just as much the second time as the first! Keep writing, Tony, your fans are looking forward to more!!

I coudnt wait to find out how it all came out. Tony Hayden left the door open for another book and I cant wait to read it too. I bought his first two books and just started the first one. Cant wait for the weekend so I can read them both. I will be watching and waiting for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down September 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
A great choice for anyone who loves mysteries and thrillers that grab you right from the start and don't let you go. I couldn't do anything else today until I finished. This is not a book that tries to stand out by providing excessive gore, horror or perversion. The author is extremely effective at keeping the reader engaged and the action moving by creating characters that are relatable (e.g., child heading off to college, parents concerned with her saftey) and suspense that keeps on building.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark and Captivating Story September 21, 2012
By Becky
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Sara is about a girl who is abducted and her father's determination to find her. This story is graphic and parts can be hard to read, however it is beautifully written and Tony Hayden draws you in with the first page. I read this in one sitting. Loved the play on the small town all sticking together, being from a small town myself. Read this book.
