5.0 out of 5 stars A page turner .....
SARA, A CANADIAN SAGA written by Audrey Austin is a wonderful surprise. Once I started reading I couldn't put the book down. This well-written book allows the believable characters to tell their family story of life and its challenges beginning in Canada's Maritime provinces in the early 1900's. The saga continues throughout the Great Depression, the 2nd world war and...

I read the self-published book, a semi-autobiographical story of a Canadian family's trials during the depression. A short book, published in paperback format with about 190 pages of text or less.

The author's story is moving but the writing is not polished or professional.

5.0 out of 5 stars A page turner ....., June 15, 2011

SARA, A CANADIAN SAGA written by Audrey Austin is a wonderful surprise. Once I started reading I couldn't put the book down. This well-written book allows the believable characters to tell their family story of life and its challenges beginning in Canada's Maritime provinces in the early 1900's. The saga continues throughout the Great Depression, the 2nd world war and takes us up to life in Toronto in the 1950's. SARA is a well-researched, moving story. Family patterns are evident as the reader moves from the heart of one generation to the next. Sara, is a strong woman of faith who determines to meet life's challenges. This is Austin's first novel and I'm looking forward to reading her future works. This page turner was money well spent.

The price for this kindle format seems quite high when larger books by International celebrity bestsellers, who are well established professional authors with 20 year careers, are willing to offer their Kindle manuscripts for the same Amazon price of $9.00US.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it even more the second time!, June 29, 2011
This review is from: Sara, a Canadian saga (Kindle Edition)
Austin's Sara is a uniquely Canadian story from our own little Prince Edward Island. Those who hail from the Atlantic Provinces will recognize the author's authentic voice and characters. Austin's unembellished style lays bare the reality of life in the Maritime Provinces leading up to the Great Depression and the heartbreaking necessity of migration so many of our ancestors faced. Her central female characters are strong in ways that my generation cannot fathom and tell the story of where we've come from. Sara is the kind of tale told in the kitchens and front rooms of my grandparents' generation, a story for all Canadians of all ages.
