It's not a love story,

This review is from: The Saracen blade, a novel
I just read the Saracen Blade by Frank Yerby, having come across it in a bookshelf at home. Then I read the reviews below. My take is that this book is really a history of the crusades and some of the main players. It took quite a while to get into the book, because it does seem like a love story or a soap opera, but I gradually realized that the author was giving us a window on what it was like to live in this medieval age of 1194 to 1250, in the Sicily and Mediterranean areas. The best part to me was his view that the crusades were the last of the barbarian invasions, with the europeans being the barbarians and the saracens the civilized.
