Product Description

Sex and the City, a frank television show about urban modern women and sex, was a ground-breaking hit from the moment it premiered on HBO four years ago. The key to its success is its smart and sexy star, Sarah Jessica Parker. Marc Shapiro's riveting biography charts Parker's success, from her poverty-stricken roots in Nelsonville, Ohio to overnight stardom on Broadway in Annie. Sarah Jessica Parker includes insight into Parker's: Hollywood success in the television series Square Pegs and breakout movie role in Footloose; tragic romance with drug addict Robert Downey Jr. and subsequent high-profile relationships with John F. Kennedy Jr. and Nicholas Cage; marriage with the man of her dreams, Matthew Broderick; why she refuses to appear nude in movies and photo shoots. The book also charts her rise as an accomplished actress-comedian in such films as Honeymoon in Vegas, Miami Rhapsody, If Lucy Fell, Dudley Do Right, and State and Main and in the plays Sylvia and Once Upon a Mattress.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lovely pictures but text is just an overview, June 29, 2008

(REAL NAME)
Written more like a report, Shapiros' book will surely frustrate Sarah Jessica Parker fans looking for more than a broad overview of her early life and rise to Sex and the City fame. Gathered from a variety of media sources, the book contains only a superficial disclosure of its subject, with none of the real-life conversations and detail necessary to connect and entertain readers. I came across the book in search of information about Parker's early childhood and was disappointed to find a general summary of part of the life of a popular actress, rather than authentic stories and engaging detail about a real person.
