Red flags abound...,

This is my first Claire Thompson story and it will probably be my last. I usually enjoy a good BDSM story, but I couldn't get through the first chapter of this one and promptly deleted from my Kindle.
I must be spoiled by great BDSM authors like Cherise Sinclair, Melinda Barron, and Sindra van Yssel because I stopped reading due to the many MANY BDSM red flags. This chick is completely new to the scene, yet she wonders around a BDSM club by herself. She goes home with a guy she JUST met without any saftey measures in place like letting a friend know where she is or having a check-in call set up. Then, when they start playing (with the guy she just met) there are no discussions about boundaries, safewords, or any of the other dozen of things a good dom should discuss with a new sub before play. Maybe it doesn't matter to you, but for me that's all part of the BDSM relationship/fantasy allure. Setting those limits and communicating shows how much the dom cares for his sub. If it's not a big deal for you, you might enjoy the book. But if you're a details person like I am, try some of the above mentioned authors instead. I'm not sure about trying any other of Ms. Thompson's books. If they all are like this, I think I'll stick with what I know.

First off, I'm a fan of Claire Thompson, so that might make me a little more picky than other readers. This story reminded me of her "Slave Castle," which I enjoyed more and would highly recommend if you like this kind of story. There are plenty of hot scenes and it all feels very realistic, but the writing and story just didn't suck me in like many of her later works. Although it included an HEA (thank you!), I just didn't feel close enough to the characters to care that much. Still, it's a good story and I'm not sorry I bought or read it.
